Sudden engine shut off for 1/4 second bursts.
I've owned my car for about 2 weeks now. No issues other than this: Every 3 or 4 times I drive the car I will accelerate (either aggressively or cassually) and somewhere around 5-7k rpm the engine will just cut out or shut off, but only for a fraction of a second. Then the car will continue on like nothing happened. No seemingly loss in power after this weird shut off. No check engine light.
2006 GT RX8
35k miles
Engine is warmed before driving in any manor.
Supposedly a full tune up was performed when I bought the car.
Issues I've been researching on rx8club:
PCM needs newest firmware update (assuming mine didn't get it)
Spark plugs need to be replaced (If so what are the model numbers for the recomended plugs for Renesis Rotaries?)
Potential fuel clog somewhere along the fuel system.
Any others?
Is there an easy way, or a way at all, for me to check on these issues without going into Mazda? And are there special tools I'll need for removing the plugs in a rotary?

I was so happy too...
So I am starting to think I bought a lemon. I have driven the car only 8 times, the last to see if I continue to experience the loss in power.
Yesturday I went up to a lake near by. About 200 miles round trip. Half way through we stopped and enjoyed the sites, no issues what-so-ever. No loss in power, no noise, nothing.
I start the car back up after about 2 hours of rest and imediately there was a very loud clicking/ticking sound coming from driver front wheel-engine area. No noticable vibration, but upon increasing rpm the noise got faster as well. Slowed down when I released the gas. I opened the hood and a noticeable "puff puff puff" sound is heard rapidly pulsing around the engine area and away from the more front end of the vehicle.
Freaked out a bit so I waited and still the vehicle ticked. Had to get home so I drove it back down hill and there was a noticable difference in the power band. Usually the power starts to be fealt around 4800, but it wasn't really kicking in till around 6800. There seamed to be the same amount of noise as though the engine is trying to increase the power band but nothing would really happen till 6800.
On top of this, once I got driving I noticed a rattling/clicking sound coming from underneath the dash area. Was reallly prominent after 3000 rpm.
This was only my eighth time driving this car and I haven't even accumulated 300 miles before this started.
As per my first post, I have not recieved my new spark plugs nor have I made it to the dealership to check on the PCM version the car is running.
I'm kind of afraid to turn the car back on. Is my engine toast already? Was it something I did? I am pretty sure I took care of it for the 300 miles, making sure to rev above 7000 from time to time. I even ordered premix fuel for it (haven't gotten it yet so it hasn't been used).

Here is a link to the recorded noise.
Upon further investigation a lot of people experiencing the same issues reported either improper installation of plugs, wrong plugs, or plugs in need of replacement all together. I will post what I find out about the car soon as I change the plugs.

The dealer is going to have to check it.
Check in the Section for club members that can help you diagnose it. I believe your in the Southwest thread.
5 -7RPM is ports opening up
Starting with noise could be the air pump for emissions
You could have a bad CAT
Most likely it is your coils
What you really need is a club member that knows about rotories check it out

Last post for anyone following this. It was mostly what I researched and was told. The spark plugs were the problem. Rather the plug wires. One wasn't put back right and fell off and I wasn't able to get under the car to check. Even if I could I still would have brought it back to dealer since it was their mess-up. Car is back up to normal power and no noise!
Thanks for the help club.

Just happened to stumble across this post. I'm very curious as to how a spark plug can fall out... Judging from the sound in the video you posted, it sounded like something was rubbing against the serpentine belt. After installing my BHR ignition kit I was worried about my L1 coil harness rubbing against the belt but zip ties saved the day. Still curious how that plug "fell off" though...
