I have a 2007 rx8 with no problems, I put new plugs and wires when I bought the car, about 8k miles on them now. The car was running fine when all of a sudden I had a severe loss of power. The car would stall coming to a stop, and I wouldnt be able to go anymore then 20 in 1st. When my rpms were at about 6k the power would slam in and when I would shift to second I had the loss of power again. My mechanic told me to disconnect the battery for 30 minutes, after I did that now the car wont start.

Check to see if plug wires are tight. How many miles? Have you replaced the coils? Are there any mods?

48k miles, I have not replaced the coils. I dont know if the previous owner ever did. No mods.

Does it attempt to crank over? if yes.......then it might be flooded now.
Diagnosis over the internet is a crapshoot at best. Don't wanna jump on the coils right away, but now after I have re-read your latest post...which also came in while I was typing..........it very well could be coils.

Anyway.................I would try and pull start it..........~18pmh in 2nd and let the clutch out, no real need to pop it.

Then if it runs and stays running................then it might be time for further diagnosis. Coils as mentioned because that coil mileage is high IMO.

Someone else chime in if I'm way off..............trying the simple stuff first. I did edit this post as I was saying clean the MAF and ESS, but he didn't mention idle problems, so after I thought about it and the power loss, but not just shutting off when coming to idle, I don't think it's the MAF or dirty ESS.

As far as i know, coils should be change at 30k miles. I have 32k miles right now, and i'm about to change it soon. Having the same problem when driving in hot days.
