I read where you put in a quart of oil, but you did not say if it was at the top of the dip-stick after you added it. If the oil lite comes on it usually means your more then two quarts down. You allso said it was over due for a change and nothing about how many quarts you had put in since your last oil change.The car has seven quarts of oil in it when at the top mark on the dip-stick. It will burn about one quart every thousand miles. So after a few tanks of gas check it. When it gets past half between the two marks on the dip stick add a quart. The oil in a car is there to lubricate and cool the engine. The oil in a car is not like the gas, where it gets near the empty and you fill it up again. The engine has to be near full of oil all the time, so don't let it get below the lower mark on the dip stick or you could damage the engine. Does this help?
