Tansmission went clunk...
Hello All.
I have a 2005 Rx8 Shinka Edition. 99,500 miles. Just recently, It caught fire. Insurance didnt do a work up on it, just claimed it totaled. The only major damage there was was the center console. Wires and everything melted. Below the cup holders started to melt as i was driving. Everyone seems to think it was the Cat Conv blocked up, all the heat went up and melted and caught the center console on fire. The inside of the car was sprayed down by the fire dept. battery terminals ripped off... the usual car on fire thing. The car was towed home. Sat un-touched for about a week.
I wanted to see if it would run. 1st try, car starts up, wont idle, oil leaking from some where unknown, all the electronics are screwed up from the melted wires/spray down. It drove well enough for me to back it into the garage, where it sat for over a month. Today, i attempted to drive it up the street to a heated garage to work on in the winter. Because of the damaged electrical system, i have to play with the lights and such until i can get it to start. IT IDLES NOW. As i try to pull out, i get about half way out of the garage, i hear (and feel) and terrible clunking, grinding noise from below the car. Hit the clutch, stopped, got out to see if i was dragging a jackstand or something. Nothing. I get back in to start going. Clutch in, into 1st gear(i actually feel the click of it going into gear), let go of the clutch....and nothing. I go no where. The engine rises about 500RPM. And nothing. Tried 1st 2nd 3rd 4th wont go into 5th or 6th and reverse. nothing. Shut the car down. Turned it back on. Nothing. I pushed the car back into the garage, as i rolled it, it made a weird clunk from under the car and from the driver rear wheel as it rolled every inch or so.
I plan on doing all the work myself. No shops. Please, can anyone help me out here. I haven't lifted it up yet so i have no idea whats going on under there as of right now. Just looking for some help/ideas/information.
Thank you
