Temp gauge normal but over heating

Hi guys,

got a 2004 rx8 with 42,000km. noticed a leak in coolent draining out after parking the car while the engine was hot.had coolent leak on top of the tank too. the temp gauge read normal. took the car to the mechanics and they opened the coolent tank and was boiling inside the tank but when opened no water came out and was empty. refilled with coolant while engine running after a while the pressure came out of the coolant tank and water sprayed out. still the temp gauge read normal. car runs fine. wat seems to be the problem? do u think the gasket needs to be replaced or is their a head gasket for the rotory. i,m from sri lanka and mechanics here are not very familiar with rotary engines. pls help on this

thanks for the info, found a slight crack under the radiator cap. fixed it. now the reserve tank does not boil. works fine. filled it up with distilled water. still the engine genarates lots of heat and feels their is a slight drop in power. could this be the reason. sri lanka has 32degrees celcius with high humidity.
thanks for saving my 8.

yep, gotta love Mazda keep using Plastic AST, I was one of the victim.

they know its going to leak/crack, guess they never learn from their 13B-REW days, or they simply don't cared. Unlike the Rx-7, there is no aftermarket drop in replacement for the Rx-8.*coughCRHcough*

We're forced to buy another one of these shitty plastic garbage tanks ...

hi guys,

the problem is not sorted, now i after i go for a ride and rev up, the coolent level of the tank increases to the top and water overflows thru the overfloor pipe. but no water boiling inside. after a while the coolent level drops. this doesnt happen when i drive at slow speeds. what should i do. rx8 2004, 46000 kms. btw ithe coolelent level when engine was cold was at the f mark. so their was no overfilling.

thanks

Thermostat perhaps?
Weak water pump?

I actually posted first to make sure you weren't overfilling....as a lot of people tend to do, but I'll take your word on it that you know where the full mark is.

Doubt your ouside temp or humidity has anything at all do do with it. I pretty much live in the same climate as you.
