Traction and CEL came on, other weirdness

Hi all,

Sorry for the long thread, hopefully someone can chime in. I have one main question and then some extra info.

I started my car after it had been sitting for about a week, traction control (sliding car) and CEL stayed on. I was going to the airport and didn't have time to scan codes, decided to take a taxi instead. Anyway, when I got back only the CEL remained, I scanned it and the codes said P2107 and P2108, which is:
P2107 - Throttle Actuator Control Module Processor
P2108 - Throttle Actuator Control Module Performance

Through a search I found this TSB: https://www.rx8club.com/attachments/...2108-p2109-pdf

I was very surprised to find so few searches pointing to this issue. Maybe I'm searching for the wrong thing.

Main question:

Anyway, I plan to take the car to my dealer and have them try the TSB solution of reflashing the ECU. My first question is, if anyone has any idea, should I drive the car? The car seemed fine, I let it warm up and revved it a bit, but didn't drive it. I'm a bit afraid of it crapping out on me on the way, seeing as other people with similar cels mention gas pedal not reacting.

Follow-up / additional issues and info

Now, my main reason for making this thread is that there's some other issues that make me wonder if something else is the issue, or if there's a combination of issues. I will mention these other factors. Any input would be appreciated.

- I have jump started my car probably 4 times, last time in April or so. When I charged the battery with a good charger it said it had deep cycle problems. It's an Optima Red top. After having some long trips the battery has been excellent. I sometimes don't use the car for a week +- and longer in winter, so I need to remember to charge if it takes too long. But could the battery be a culprit here, does the deep charge error message from the charger mean anything as long as it starts in 0,5 secs?

- My center console display (temp, radio display etc.) is sometimes going all funky, it looks like a lot of random characters displayed in random locations all over the screen, all garbled.
This radio display thing became an issue after a long drive in a rain storm on rural roads where there was a constant layer of water on the road and there were pretty high speeds. What makes me mention this is that this guy had the traction and cel (but different error code) and he mentions doing a wash under the engine:
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tro...sensor-165147/
I was pondering if I could have gotten water/dirt on something somewhere. If that's at all possible

- A few weeks before the display issue I changed my midpipe to the BHR type. I'm a crappy mechanic, but the install seemed to be ok. Car feels fine, maybe not as spiffy as when I had COBB AP and was tuned, but that's 2 years ago. The only thing I can think of was that I had a hard time disconnecting the O2 sensor wire in the pipe, if tugging that wire has pulled on some other wires, could that be an issue? Where does it go?

- I had the dealer do a cleanup of the SSV in January, the P2070. I didn't feel like it had other issues then too, it was drivable. But the car isn't as spiffy as it was, and that started after the dealer doing an oil change a year ago. I suspect it's the newbies that do that, is it possible to fill oil too quickly and get it in the intake system like people used to talk about years ago? I am a bit tempted to take the entire intake apart and check all connections, but my back has been a bitch lately so I'm up **** creek :|

General info about the car
2004 RX-8 High power US model with 44000 kms
BHR ignition, plugs changed at 28000km
BHR mid pipe
Optima red top battery

I'd appreciate if anyone can try to connect the dots or chime in with similar issues or solutions.

AGM batteries don't like to be completely discharged and need to be fully charged every once in a while with a capable charger. If you are going to let it sit, it needs to be on a trickle charger, or get one of these:

Yeah it seems I found out a bit too late. My charger reports the battery should be replaced now. It's so hard to get a good battery for a decent price here though.

Took the car in and got the CEL cleared, hopefully there's not some stuff there that will make it come back.
