Traction light stuck on, engine not running right.

a long explanation
Yes to all of the above. Do plugs, coils and wires. Also clean you Maf and E-shaft censor. Check that your cat is glowing red and failing. Get the code read and find out what it is. In your case it could be a number of things.
After that, if you're still having issues take it in for a compression test.
As for the traction control light, I'm not sure how it would play in to the rest of your issues.

He's right on with checking to see if your cat is glowing red. when you lose compression does it begin to sound like a lawn mower?
That the problem I had 10 months ago, conveniently in a humid summertime environment. for the first 2 weeks it would only occur maybe once or twice a day and it would correct after just a few moments of driving. Then it started lasting long each time and smoke started coming up through middle console, that was the cat burning off the excess fuel (which caused it to glow red). I had the same codes, and my traction light was stuck on. 3 weeks into the problem, it ONLY ran like it had no compression. It ended up being coils 2 and 4 being blown. the engine codes don't necessarily read that, they just tell you general problems. Even a mechanics/dealer computer won't tell them that specifically, they just have to be good at their job to figure it out with what they do get.
Coils are cheap and relatively easy to replace, I would start there (they're known to fail in the RX8). Also replace your spark plugs, which are durn near as expensive as the coils. If it is your coils, you're spark plugs/cat are flooding.
Finally to the traction light, it ended up being a fuse. One fuse blew and it confused the poor computer. Check for any blown ones.

Wow, thanks Marine. My cat is punched so it shouldn't be the cat failing. It could be a coil, I have been thinking that also. I think today I will order the coils, and replace them maybe. I'm still waiting on the MAF, which I get a code for that. I am putting my hopes into that one. I will check the fuses though, I haven't done that yet. What caused the fuse to blow?
