Trouble starting but not flooded

Hello all,

Hoping someone might be able to help. A few weeks ago i left my interior light on and came back to the car a few days later to find the battery was completely dead. I jump started the car and got the TCS DSC lights staying on. I checked the manual and performed the suggested sequence to fix, which it did. For the last few weeks i have had no problems, has been starting and driving as normal. I went to start the car a couple of days ago and it would not start, was just ticking over again like the battery was dead ( i had not left and lights on etc ) and in addition to the usual ignition lights being displayed the TCS and DSC lights remained illuminated. Again i jump started the car and again worked fine. I came back to use the car a couple of hours later and experienced the same problem again. The problem is not mechanical as it works fine once jump started, i dont think its the alternator as the battery is losing charge to quickly so i am assuming it is some kind of electrical fault that may have come about as a result of the battery going completely dead previously. Has anyone experienced anything similar or can suggest anything i can do to fix other than taking it to Mazda?

Thanks in advance

Yep. Battery plates degrade somewhat during major discharge episodes like this. Marginal batteries that were previously usable can be useless after such a discharge.

No question, I would go out today and get a new battery. I'm no expert, but it sounds like your battery simply can't hold a charge.

I replaced mine last year and got this one (Bosch 35-640B, recommended by Consumer Reports) at Pep Boys:

Thanks for the help guys, definitely going to get a new battery. Have been reading various threads trying to get an idea what battery to get. Have been weighing up CCA against cost and have found the 027 Enduroline battery with 630 CCA 63 AH for £59, the next best has 750 CCA but costs £130. Is the extra CCA worth the extra money?

From what I know, running the car cannot fully charge a battery.
If the battery is not old and can still hold a charge, you can charge the battery, but if the battery is old and the charge bleeds away quickly, you need a new battery.

Don't cheeze out, get the 750 CCA.
You will be happy you did......that's my opinion.
