I have had a trunk seal failure that began within a few months of getting the car. The rubber seal that is attached to the body split along the right corner nearest the right taillight. The split is now about 6" long, and there is an inner solid tube that has broken and is sticking out. I also noticed the same thing is starting to happen on the opposite side. Anyone else experiencing this?

 

Mine split on the left side after I loaded a suitcase that was slightly too big for the trunk opening (had to remove the plastic cover for the latch). No split on the other side. Yours may have arisen from loading stuff as well?

 

Yep. Same as first message of thread. Unprovoked.

 

My son loads a backpack into the trunk every day, but if it rubbed anywhere, it would be more towards the center. My splits are on the rounded portion of the trunk. I'm gonna complain on my next visit to service dept. I don't think 'normal wear and tear' should result in a failure after only 35K miles. AFAIC, trunks are meant to be used regularly.

 

Forgot to update this one - they replaced the trunk seal under warranty.
