Unlock doors with key fob - Hazard lights DO NOT blink. Do I have an old flash?
Hey guys.
Something slightly annoying - I unlock my car, and my hazard lights dont blink to let me know its unlocked. It's a bit annoying having to be so close I have to hear the locks unlock.
My friends 04 blinks when its unlocked, the manual says its supposed to blink when its unlocked - mine doesnt.
Could I have an old flash that maybe they updated this with? Is there a 'setting' that I'm not aware of?
Thanks!

I have the same problem
I have the same problem. I noticed that the hazards blink when you lock the doors, but not when you open them. Just think of it as a secruity feature, if someone gets a-hold-of your keys they will have a hard time finding your car in a parking lot.
Oh and it has nothing to do with the flash!

Try it, unlock your trunk, but don't open it. Get in the car and drive around ......... you won't have any indication that your trunk's ajar expect for the fact the when you lock/unlock the car your lights won't flash.
We need a freakin' trunk ajar light Mazda ...... my 15 year old car had one ....... it can be done.

They only flash if you go between successfully locked (no trunk/door ajar)<-->unlocked . Unlocking an already unlocked or improperly locked (door ajar) car = no flash.

I noticed that my lights were not working when I locked the 8 when putting it away for the winter. Everything was closed up tight. A month later the battery was down so I had to boost it to run it. Last month I recharged it again and ran it for a while. When I shut the hood I slammed it a bit harder that I intended. When I locked the doors - this time the lights flash.
When I bring her out in the spring I am going to get them to look at the circuits/switches for the trunk. I'll bet a replacement switch is on the way.

The 8 is up on stands so I am not sure how much the vibrations affect anything. But the reference above to the trunk lid being open inhibited the flashing got me thinking (I suppose one could say barely thinking but what the hey).
If there is a faulty switch or wiring then I would guess that it could be sensitive to the slam. There may not be a connection but if the problem persists I will be looking in the area of the trunk and the harness.
I have seen a lot of seemingly unconnected symptoms get tied together in unexpected ways over the years. I have tended to take an intuitive approach to debugging stuff and tended to be open to possibilities until I have completely ruled it out.
Then again the slam of the hood could be completely unrelated. But I am glad for this forum as it gives us enough information and confidence to go after issues ourselves so that when we do take the cars into the shop we've done a little homework and are less likely to put up with any bs.

Are you aware that the hood not being latched correctly will cause the lights not to flash also?
There's a hood switch tied into the theft deterent system, along with the door and trunk switches.
It sounds like they need to look at your hood switch based on what you've said so far.

Damned fobs
Just recently, both key fobs on my '04 RX-8 stopped locking and unlocking the doors. I can hear a quiet clicking sound in the door but there's no lock/unlock. Hitting the lock button twice on either fob DOES make the headlights flash but that's it.
I have searched this forum for the solution. I found one tutorial involving turning on ignition key three time, opening and closing door three times but it didn't do anything.
Visual inspection of door mechanisms checked out fine. Trunk lid has been closed tight (key fobs still do unlock trunk only.
Now what?
