Unhappy using oil

Just purchased RX8 with 48000 on clock. drove home ( drove 200km ) and next day when starting there was some smoke out exhaust.....oil light came on and went out....drove 5km then check oil level.....it was on the low level mark.

Why would it use oil? at 48 000 km ?

All this tells me is that you went out and bought the car without researching or learning about it at all.

The RX-8 consumes oil as a means to lubricate the engine. It's normal. They usually burn a quart of oil every 600-1000 miles depending on how hard you drive it.

However, sorry to tell you, white smoke exhaust is often a telltale sign of potential fatal engine problems. Can you get a refund or is there any warranty? You should investigate, 1st the refund, or elsewise the warranty quickly me thinks.

I would say a qt oil every 1000-3000 miles is more like normal.

^Not necessarily.

Did you buy it from a dealer? That could make things easier if so, since plenty of private sellers won't take it back if so. However, don't worry about that yet.

Well, for one, add some oil to it. Take it to a Mazda dealer(This is where hopefully it was purchased from one, to make it even easier), or a shop that can do a compression check on the engine. If that comes back fine, then you're good to go. I would just go on and do all of your maintenance after that to make sure everything'll stay fine.

often times small amounts of white smoke in the morning is just condensation. it being the day after leaving the dealer tells me it was probably washed and there is moisture left over in the exhaust system contributing to it.

i would call up who you bought it from and ask why they didnt top it off before selling it to you.
