Very Frustrating :(
You guys have helped me in the past, and I get most of my information from this site. I have a 2007 Rx8 48,000 miles bought it brand new. I love the car but recently its starting too **** me off. I had the engine replaced under warrenty recently because it would die on me driving down the highway. Now I took a trip too florida only for it too break down on me again! So I had it towed too the nearest mazda dealership. (South Carolina) Turns out it was my catlyic converter. So I stayed in a hotel overnight for them too get the part and install it. I drive off the lot and make it about 200 miles near jacksonville and it dies again! Im really confused. What else could be causing this? I have gotten new plugs, coils, oil recently changed, New fuel pump all under warrenty. I feel like im getting the run around with these mazda guys. "OH ITS FIXED" and then the same thing happens again. Ill be driving and the RPMS drop too zero and it shuts off. I try and crank it, it stays on for a couple seconds then dies again. Any help would be grateful,
Thanks in advance

try resetting your Eshaft sensor for now. Do you know if they reset it when you got the new motor? If they didnt than sometimes that EShaft sensor will need reset. For now its not sounding good for you. You might need a compression test once again.

Reasons why a CAT can go bad. Instead of the dealership finding the source of the problem, they just basically gave you a bandaid.
1. you car is running lean, which means your car air/gasoline mixure has more gasoline in it, so the car doesnt burn all the gasoline and all that gasoline ends up in your catalytic converter.
2. a leak in your oil. this means that oil is leaking to the exhaust system, if you don't take care of a smoking car soon, the catalytic converter will go bad because all the oil is getting acumulated on the catalytic converter and the exhause sytem.
3. vibration. mounting your exhaust system properly will decrease vibration. if there is too much vibration on your exhaust system, the honeycomb material in the catalytic converter will start to crumble.
4. time, after time, its only normal that the catalytic converter starts to deteriorate. usually they can last 15 years if you take good care of your car. they can last even more if you take extra car of your car.

Believe it or not........check your battery connections and make sure they are clean and tight!
I know the car runs off the alternator once running, but I think some small systems still run off the battery and I know I've read on this site that was the cause a few times.
Might want to have the alternator checked out though........and check the connection at the alternator. Maybe read the voltage with car running and you should see around 13.8v - 14.2v
