water mixed with oil
I took my 2004 RX8 to the shop because the check engine light came on. I was told that there is water in the oil. Leak det pump $173.94, fuel cap $17.73, Labor $345.21=$561.87. That's one problem. The other, TSB moisture on dipstick $361.62, CSO $32.55, Labor $345.21 = $764.37. For a grand total of $1,301.25. I could use some advice on what's going on here. btw it has over 96,000 miles.

He's as bad as Can
How did they determine that there was water in the oil and what was the CEL? If they based this on gunk on the dipstick only take your car and NEVER go back to them again.

Water in the oil is likely condensation....drive it hard and most will evaporate...change the oil.....done
It sounds like they want to change the Evap leak pump. ?? What CEL was thrown? If it is gone than you will have a CEL until it is fixed..but it won't hurt anything....unless you have a vac leak from it
That's a lot of labor for that work....
Might want to find an Independent shop that is more reasonable than a dealer....

Well normally that is the correct inspection technique.
But you need more than foam. It turns yellow and one can tell if there really is water in the oil.
If not when they drain the oil you can tell.
Unfortunately the RX8 has a condensation problem that causes the foaming dip stick.

Good advise. A Rotary shop would know about your car.
Edit: Since you mentioned TSB it already may be at the dealer., still take it to Rotary shop.
Afterall it's a sports car and needs special car.
