Water in trunk

Last year I found, and responded to this old thread: https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discussion-3/leaking-trunk-wet-carpet-its-mystery-113435/

Now rainy season is approaching again and I'm not looking forward to the puddle and mold from last year.

My question is: are the taillight seals the only known fix? (I had the taillights replaced a few years ago under warranty for water *in* the lights- the trunk was dry until last year and then it really was wet). Can I buy the seals separately?

(I don't have a spoiler and I checked the sunroof drains by pouring water in them and saw they drained normally)

It's an early 04, bought it new. Thanks!

James

I have that problem too. My driver side tail light has moisture and left side of the trunk is noticeably more wet. Could it be from bad taillight seal?

The tail light seal has been an issue with our rx8. Usually, rain moisture gets inside the tail lights very easily. One fix for this problem is to replace the defective seal and replace it with a new seal. I replaced mine that i bought from the Home Depot. I forgot what its called, but look for a water gasket seal. When i got it installed, no more water moisture gets inside the tail lights anymore. There are a few more fixes, but i think this is the best one for me.

i did some digging, pulled all linings from the trunk and found that metal separated in one spot where it had white/yellow glue to the left of the lock. Sealed it, cleaned taillight and that area on the car. Unfortunately i didn't have enough time to fix it properly, so i just applied some engine oil to the gasket and put everything back on, still works good and trunk is dry now even after daily rain showers
