Unhappy Weird Noise

Someone please tell me what is wrong with car....It has 95,000 miles give or take and has done wonderful until now. It is making the weirdest noise. It sounds like metal rubbing but its not like a grinding. Its like when you take 2 pieces of metal and brush them together how it sounds? Well thats what it reminds me of...I know I can't describe worth a crap but if anyone knows sort of what im talking about please help.....

Not really enough to go on.

When does it do it, when does it not do it, does it seem to change based on RPM or not, does it change on speed or not, for either how does it change, etc...

Have to describe as completely as possible, and not just the noise itself as it is just as important to know when it doesn't happen as it is to know when it does.

Well I noticed when idles, It still has good power and everything. I know that it just started about a few days ago. Like a higher pitch idle...I suck at explaining things...does that help?

Please don't create threads multiple places. People ARE seeing the thread here, the problem is that it's really hard to toss out something that it could be with such limited info.

I don't mean to be harsh or offensive when I say it, but you HAVE to become good at explaining the issue. All your best intentions don't get anywhere if you can't put it down in text for us to read.

Only happening at idle? Metallic "whirring" noise? It MIGHT just be your throw-out bearing, which is part of the clutch system. They tend to fail on RX-8s a bit earlier than most. It's not anything really critical if you are just now hearing it. Usually the clutch itself fails before the throwout bearing still. Just starts making noise early. It's my best guess with the limited information you give us

This. At least take a cell phone video or something (preferably a good camera) and upload it to youtube then post up the link here. As stated its very difficult to decipher a symptom with such little explanation.

Its understandable that you may not be able to describe what you are experiencing. That why we shoot a barrage of questions at you. If you can take a minute to answer each question, that will give us a good idea of what it could be and also what it isnt. If you cannot give a good description of the problem, A video is your best bet.

Can you at least pinpoint where the noise is coming from? The front, middle or back? Does it make a difference if the AC is on or off? Is the car automatic transmission or manual? You say it does it at idle. Is this idle in gear or park. Foot on the brake or rolling at idle? -or- At idle with clutch pushed in or out?

I understand you're frustrated. By answering the questions posed, you will inadvertently be giving us clues to help you.

When you're idling in neutral does it go away as soon as you step on the clutch?

It's coming from the front. No it don't make a difference when the heat or Air is on. Its manual. Its in neutral when idling. When driving you really can't tell as much. But when you are stopped even in 1st gear you can hear it. And when stopped it is idling its a little ruff. No Its does not go away when you step on the clutch its not as loud when the clutch is pushed in but you can still hear it. The video is a good idea that would help alot. Sorry I will answer any questions you ask.

Sounds like the throwout bearing in the clutch. Nothing to panic over, just move up your next clutch replacement. If it gets really harsh and really grindy before it fails.
