So ive heard all sorts of things about disengaging the DSC....that its better on gas mileage and more power constantly. also i have read that not just hitting the botton to turn it of but holding it for 5 seconds will shut off the other part of it. so i did it an both lights popped up..i shut of the dsc and the little trac skid light was on. didnt do it for long until i had to stop the car and starting again obviously put it back on. so whats the deal with turning it off....and whats the diff about holding it for 5 seconds...better power? beter gas mileage??

He's as bad as Can
Doing that also turns off the traction control so you will “ light up “ the tires more giving you the impression of more power. As for fuel economy turning it off has zero effect. Think about it, DSC / Traction control only come into play under specific vehicle conditions (extreme). Under normal driving it does nothing and turning it off will do nothing to improve mileage. The risk of damage to your car is not worth it. About the only thing members have done that they claim to have improved MPG is install the Racing Beat intake + Cold Air

You'll be able to spin your tires, slide through corners and otherwise add excitement to your driving experience by turning it off. On the other hand, it won't be available to help you control an extreme driving situation that may get you, someone you love or someone you don't even know, killed.
You make the call.

DSC on or off
I turn the DSC off in the rain if I want to have fun. But as was mentioned, the RX8 will swap ends in an instant if you're not fast enough. On the way to work I always leave it on to help handle those little surprises.

^ I made the BIG mistake of turning it off (just one press, no hold) and forgot it was off
. Entered a roudabout, turning right (US guys know what I mean?) with too much throttle. Ended up doing a 360, clouds of smoke from the tyres and LUCKY that no other vehicles there
. Bone dry, summer's day and the RE040's let go big time. Big embarrassment as I had to get turned the right way with several other drivers looking on - not big, not clever and NOT recommended .

just be very careful in the start, it isn't just about the back giving out anymore like the mustang, it is about the entire car back AND front drifting around the corner
goodluck and post videos

ps. what does having the REVI ram and intake have anything to do with the DSC?

It is well noted that disabling the DSC and/or Traction poses a dangerous risk to the car.
What disabling it is meant for is if the 8 is stuck and the wheels spin the Traction control will cut the engine down almost immediately so turning it off gives a better chance of getting out.
I will also add that turning it off under any driving conditions raises the risk of damaging the rims because curbs tend to attract the wheels with the DSC and Traction off. The valve stems can snap on a curb, this will lower tire pressure real fast and the emergency repair kit for the tires will not remedy this only a tow truck to the nearest tire repair facility. Need I say more?
