Wheel lock fail?!

I had WTF moment just minutes ago... I tried to take my wheels off and repaint them since I scratched them a little. While taking the last wheel off the wheel lock just broke in two pieces.... ?!! Is there anyway to fix it or I need to get new one?

I don't know if you can get a new one. It may be possible to weld it back in place. There was a way posted on how to pound a regular socket over the locking lug to get it off. It destroys the socket however.

your car came with a way for you to register your wheel locks to the VIN should you need a replacement.
I believe it was where the scissor jack is located in the trunk.

could try that. either that or ditch all of them and just pick up a set of bull locks or something

If I need a new set I would rather get aftermarket ones but how do I take the one that's left on off???

Might be able to reseat the hardened pattern into the splined socket and give it enough of a tap to seat it....... at least to get the old lugs off

Then buy a set of aftermarket locks...will be cheaper than getting a new OEM key

The ones in the first link will not work with the 8. You need 12-1.5 thread size.

Yea I would get some nice epoxy or jb-weld and put some inside the socket and then drop the patterned piece back in and get it snug. That would hold up pretty well. Quite a lot of car companys glue/epoxy them in like that in the first place from what I have seen.

Ive had my fair share of FML moments with these wheels locks. Lost it twice. Had to buy 2 new sets from mazda. Then i lost it for another 3rd time cause i left it on the lug nut and drove off. SO i had to drive back to wheever i went and found it on the side of the road.

You just need to weld it. Or just go to mazda get the last lock taken off (they have a master key) and get a new set.

There should be a 3x5ish manilla envelope either in your glovebox or in the spare tools space in the trunk to order a replacement.

Rather than ordering a new one I elected to use an oversized socket that I banged in with a hammer. Stripped nut/bolt removers work too... Craftsman from Sears.

The key is a pressed interference fit into the lock socket. Look closely at how they engage each other and it will make sense. Just drop the key into the socket and then take a hammer and a metal bar or the backside first of a smaller socket and hammer it back into the lock socket.

Otherwise if it was Mazda locks just drive your car to the dealership. They should have a master keylock set to match it up and order a new one
