Whistle like noise when starting
Since some time my RX 8 is kind of slow starting and when it finally starts there's like a whistle like sound. I wonder if it might be the starter. The battery is new. I got new spark plugs and new cables. Any help as what it might be? Thanks!!!!!

If it only makes the sound immediately after starting, and fades about about 1 to 2 minutes, then it's your air pump. Only needed for emissions control and to help extend the life of your cat by getting it up to temperature quicker. Feel free to remove if no cat is in place, or no emissions control is needed (which I suspect is the case in PR)

You can confirm by opening the hood, turning on the car, and then going back to he engine bay and pinpointing the noise. You should be able to before it stops, and the air pump is on the passenger side, right next to the shock tower.

My was making a jet engine sound, yet again I park inside a garage. It started to get louder and then it stop and my check engine light came up. Dealer replace it under warranty. They said it was part of the extended engine warranty since it there for the engine. FYI

And neither the engine core warranty or the emissions warranty apply to him in Puerto Rico

You don't actually say WHAT the dealer replaced under warranty. If it was the air pump, it isn't "there for the engine", it's "there for the cat", and would be covered under the US federal emissions warranty. If your dealer ACTUALLY replaced the air pump under the engine core warranty, then not only would I be shocked, I would have trouble trusting that dealer with anything, knowing that they know so little about the cars they work on (this isn't unique to rotaries).

FYI, it not like am going to tell the dealer, sorry your wrong, you need to charge me $500. Dollars for the air pump + labor.
As for the dealer: its Milan Mazda in Puyallup WA
I had use them since I got my car 2006, I do all my maintenance my self. I have no record, and in 2010 went my first check engine came on, I took the car in two hour later they call me to come pick up the car and that with in a week they wood have a new engine for my car. The next monday I drop of the car and on Tuesday I had the car back.
If your able to find a Great Dealer that goes the extra mile for there customers, you will see them take care of you, like they did with me, FYI
