Wont start when the engine is hot
My wife has a 04 rx8 6sp has 128000 miles on it. She has been havine a problem with it not wanting to start back up while she is running errands and stuff. It seems that if it sits for about 20 mins of so it will crank back up, it also takes 10-20 secs for it to start on these cold mornings. I changed the plugs and coils back in April or May. Took it to the delership and they said it needs a motor $4000. Any advise would be great.

The dealership said it has lost compression but I dont trust everything they say, so Im looking for some other opinions.

I have been having the same issue and am glade I checked out this post, my car has 95k miles on it so it should still be under the warrenty im calling the dealer tomarrow and having them do the check.
Just wandering though does anyone know how long car will last with this problem. does it get worse? or just stay the same?
and could it possably be an ecu flash needing done someone told me that was the issue?

Ours has lasted over a year, but is getting worse. Im wondering if the dealership is the only place to get another engine.

The original starter is physically smaller (shorter) than the newer, faster starter.
If you get under the car, driver's side right under the door, and look next to the transmission you can see it. Take a side-profile pic of the starter and post it.
Also, has the engine been de-carboned lately?
