I want to do this re-routing of the overflow tube (hose) Mazda still has the same length in 09's, I don't like the idea of overflow going over electrics or the radiator itself..so where did you extend it to given the radiator core is right below, it must have been a long tube?

this was nothing fancy, it was a more get it done / safe thing. it was before a time attack that started at 97deg...

i just took a larger hose inserted the stock hose that comes out of the bottle.. then routed it carefully about the fans down to just above the belly pan.

will tidy it up next time i have it apart, but it takes care of the problem..

so basically i went through the other day and cleaned the connectors (ps and torque sensor connectors). Drove from san diego to phoenix with no problems. So i drive it here and there while im there and everything is all good like in the past. Then i notice that if i make a right hand turn its wayyyy easy compared to making a left hand turn. So i shut it off and when i come back my PS light is on with no PS. Wasnt to suprised with the light coming on i drive it to the dealership thats close by. Explain my problem not having time to let them take a look nor wanting to pay $200.00 like last time to tell me my connectors are dirty. I leave with PS.
Drive all the way back to Cali last night with power steering then i notice the same problem where its really easy to go right and hard to go left like one way has power steering and the other doesnt. Could this mean there is a more serious problem then these connectors?
( i havent hard wired anything yet just because i figure that is a last ditch effort) Im close to takin it in to a dealership and saying fix it..... but the problem with that is how much am i gonna get robbed. Any help would be appreciated.

hmm i to am thinking of doing this as the issue drives me crazy. i to, clean them and also relocated the overflow and it lasted a while but then one day it happened again no power steering. i just poped the hood disconnected the connectors re attached them and everything was good. i may just keep doing that or i may do the splice job. i will decide later as once in a while just poping the hood and dis connectiong and re connectiong may not be as bad as a permanant splice. much easier to dis connect and re connect if you have after market intake and have the original intake box out so you have very easy access to the wires at all times.

Before I've done these steps over & over, cleaned, wiped, reconnect etc. And still experienced problems with PS.

Eventually I took it to a Profesional Rotary Mecanic since I was out of ideas of what's going on. Turns out that my battery wasn't providing enough volts thru the entire car and especially the PS.

The mecanic simply told me, just buy a good battery such as ADELCO or Optima Yellow Top, just to be curious and didn't want to go to the stealership. I went to Autozone purchased a Yellowtop Optima battery almost $200 with taxes.

As soon as I got home on a thursday night, replaced my battery and reseted the PS with the Steering Wheel left & right process.

( Honestly ) = no problems since .... jajajaja been running for 2 years like I drove it from the dealer first day....

^^ Very good point mate..
Most batteries only last 4-5 years, so most 2004 or 2005 RX-8 should have a new replacement battery.

just thinking this is a huge cup of fail..

thi is a good post i was havin a power steering poblem an it turns out the colant overflowed an got on the plug all i did was unplug it cleaned it an let t dry out

somone needs to post a thread with a big *** "REROUTE YOUR OVERFLOW HOSE" title in it.
we'd see less of these threads, especially come summer time.
