I think tirerack is clearing them out in preparation for the Z1 Star Spec, but this is still an awesome deal for a great tire. $128 for a tire that outperforms 98% of the street compounds out there!

Just ordered a set. At these prices, half what Yokohama charges for the Advan Neovas, they were too good of a deal to pass up. I'll probably get them on in a couple months and then I can have a comparison between these and the Neovas.

Reports are they need a bit of heat in them to work well, but when warmed up in the dry they're stickier than the T1-R. The T1-R probably shades it in wet performance, but these will have much faster response. They're really two different classes of tires. The T1-R is a performance tire that is designed to excel in most non-freezing situations while the Sport Z1s are more specialized and generally designed for maximum dry grip and response. The T1-Rs will also last longer.

I've driven on a moist Sebring at 50 degrees with the Z1's. Indeed, the Z1's, when cold, aren't all that grippy. But, overall, given the conditions, the tires performed very well. As the day warmed and the track dried, grip was incredible for a street tire. Sidewall is very firm as well.

I'm going to be very curious to compare these back to back with a set of Advan Neovas. The Neovas are pretty temperature stable and don't seem to heat cycle out at all. I'm wondering how the Z1s will compare in grip, temperature characteristics, response, and durability.

I just got a set of 245/40R18 Z1's for 118 each from my work. All Goodyear Retail shops are clearancing these tires out. Look for a retailer and see if they can get these (I'm currently one of two Goodyears in the bay area that stocks these, there are 31 store in our district so they're not easy to find locally).

The price is back up, but they're now on closeout status. I guess tirerack realized they could make some more money on the tires then they thought or something. I just received my tires today and through cursory initial measurements they seem to be about the same tread and section widths as my Advan Neova AD07s; which is to say a cheater 225 that is actually the width of a normal 235 or wider.

It's up there with the RE-01R and much more competent than the ol' Kumho MX.
Now, is it an RA-1 killer? No, but it is an RT-615 and RS2 Z212 killer. It's about as much performance out of a street tire that you can get before dipping to D.O.T R compound.

Have you tested them Team? To me it seems like they're very new and there's very little data available on them. While I don't doubt the general consensus that the AD07s are superior, it seems like it might be a wash to the RE-01Rs as the Z1s have superior response characteristics. Anyway, we'll know soon as my AD07s will come off in the next month and the Z1s will go on.

I would wait for the star spec Z1's unless you need new tires now. The star spec is supposed to have better cold grip characteristics, which is definitely what these lack. I will post what I can from the internal bulletin Goodyear put out last week when I get a chance.
