17 x 9.0 wheel, 35 or 43 offset?

Hi, im trying to decide which offset to use. I would guess 43 should be fine, since I already have 8.5 wide rims w/ 43 offset. But wanna see would 35 offset w/ a 9.0 wheel fit w/ no rubbing. Anybody have similar offset wheels? Thanx

oh, its 17 x 9.0 for all around.

IMO an offset below 38 with 9" is really pushing it, what size tire were you planning on running?

yes. I think 35 maybe pushing it.. but I do like that more aggressive look. :P
I know someone w/ 35 offset running a 17 x 8.0 wheel is fine.
I will run 255/40/17

yes, but the same offset with a 9" wheel will result in the outer wheel lip being 1/2" further to the outside than an 8" wheel, you might have to run a bunch of negative camber to tilt the top in and keep it from rubbing and your really only talking about a bit more than 1/4" difference between the two offsets, it will fill the outer wheel well good so why push it?

35 will be fine on a 9inch rim.. im running a 19x9.5 with a 30 offset and i only had to bend the fender lip slightly less than 5mm, so it wont rub under full sway..

and yes it looks very aggressive and i love it .. got many compliments..

the rx8 can easily take 20 offset 9.5 inch rims with the fenders rolled..and a minimum of 35 if you do not want to get your fenders rolled on a 9.5 inch rim..

oh and in the front you will have no problems.. im running a 25 offset on a 8.5 in the front.. no modification

with what size tire though?

My comments are based off my own experience with 9.5 on 45 and a wide tire

then there's the whole issue with scrub radius and other steering geometry things that happen when you push out a lot further than OE, but showboaters are usually more interested in looking bad, even if it actually means being bad (and I don't mean good-bad either)

it *may* be ok but I tend to be more into function than looks so I don't see the point, if you get tires mounted up and have an issue you're stuck with making it work though

I am specifically referring to the front fender, the rear will hold a bigger wheel/tire, and don't get me started about running a staggered wheel/tire setup on an RX-8

my shop is telling me that, 35 offset should be no problem.
the prob w/ 43 offset for 17 x 9.0, is that, I will have 6mm less space on the inside. although I think 6mm shouldnt be that significant??
My shop also tells me, even if I had slight rubbing w/ the 35mm offset, with my coilovers I can adjust the car to sit a little higher? and perhaps more negative camber will help too? (Im planning on running more negative anyways).

btw, I will be running 255/40/17
thanx

I'm running a 9.5" wheel @ 45mm with a fat@ss tire on it, I'm farther to the inside than you'll be and it doesn't rub, not even at full lock

if you really want it to look mean put 18 x 10 with 285/30 on all four corners

im running 19x9.5 30 offset 5mm roll on fender lip for the rears with 245/35 wrapped on them..

if i rolled the fender alll the way to the edge..i could have gone with a 20 offset with current tire size..

in the front im rolling with 19x8.5 45 offset with 20mm spacer and 225/35 ( i wanted to 225/40 but it was unavailable)

btw.. my car is slammed with less than a finger gap..

i do agree the lower the offset the thinner the tire you have to go to avoid rolling your fenders unless you go to a crazier offset like mine 30 or less..

im more looks since i live in the city and dont race.. and like the look of minor camber.. bought this car for its value and looks and exclusivity..not performance... would have gone with a 350 or sti.otherwise..but i do understand peeps position of "function over show" .. to each his own..my focus SVT was all performance.. although i must say with my current setup my cars handling is more impressive and more responsive than the stock boat like feeling..

yeah, you could have run much wider tires had you not spaced the wheels out so far, but to each their own ... if you're happy that's all that matters

yea i knew that.. but wider tires also =more money..and i again like the stretched look mean and adventureous..different too.. i drift too a bit.. so i have cheap GENERAL TIRE Exclaim UHP Z rated..so as to not severely burn a hole in my pocket.

but you are right to each their own.. and i love my setup...totallly changes the look of the 8!
