1st post-new here-just purchased 04 rx8 loaded-has roaring noise

So i finished up all the paperwork and sealed the deal last night at the dealership however when i test drove it i noticed that when i hit 20mph and above i hear a loud continuous roar coming from the rear and i mean very loud and the first thing i said to myself is that this car has very worn rear wheel bearings in it, it has to be what it is, now the tires were worn way way down also so i told the dealer i wanted new tires all the way around and so it stayed at the dealership when i left and will be ready with new tires and possibly new wheel bearings if needed tomorrow afterneen.
Im new to thses type cars and im 43yo now and decided i needed to get out of the granny type family cars and get me a neat good looking toy car to have fun with and when i seen this rx8 my needs were filled immediatly with the looks/design of this car.

Now i know that this car is going to be a louder car than what ive been driving and grew up driving 64/65/66 stangs with 289,s in them and they were no where near as noisy on the inside as this rx8 is.

So the question here is, is wheel bearings a common prob with these cars?
This car has only 19k orig miles on it.

Why did you seal the deal?? Did they not replace the tires and bearings for you or did you not pick it up yet?

And no, the rotary engine runs very quietly. The RX8 is not a loud car.

Maybe your real axel is fucked?
My friend s2k had crazy vibration & sound problems, and when he replaced the axels they noises were gone.

No they are doing all of that tomorrow as it will be the 1st on the rack in the morn and all of this is in the contract that has to be performed/repaired before i take physical possession of the car w/no cost to or from me.

didnt you test drive the car BEFORE you signed the paperwork?

how are you 43 and not following that practice yet?

as said before, the rx8 is quite a quiet car.

to answer your question- no bearings are not known to be a problem on this car.

welcome

There is a bit of road noise mostly from the high performance tires but it shouldn't be particularly loud or rumbly from any specific place.

My suggestion is after you test drive your repaired car test drive another 8 from the lot and see if it's different. Preferably a new one if possible.

Ok well im cryin and another sleepless night awaits me hehe
as the car dealer just informed me that the car has been up on the rack and all bearings in the rear etc are all tip top shape so he said the new tires they are putting on will stop the noise, however the bad part is, is that they couldnt getem in today but will arrive around 11am tomorrow morn.
As i said another sleepless night awaits me hehe.

If your used 8 has the OG tires on it, then its the Potenza tires they suck and make a ton of road noise. Get some after market rubbers lol and have fun. Look out for the cheep kumho tires. They tend to get flat spots. But I still love them over the stock tires just cuz they did not make all that road noise.

Well if you want you can always hit up a tire shop like discount tire or tire rack and ask them if they will buy the new ones? if not sell them on line in our for sale section
