225/40/18???????

Has any one gone to 225/40/18 rather than the factory 45 series tires? The reason I ask is the 40 series seems much more common in tire shops and online

if you are looking to keep the same size/diameter you want to go to a 235 or 245 / 40 / 18.

many more choices and price opitons.

OTOH 225/40s would perform a bit better. Drop the car about 1/2 inch and lower the gearing, with less rotating mass to boot. Revs would be a little higher on the freeway, but the rotary is so smooth I doubt you'd notice it.

My snow tires are 225/40/18's... speedo is slightly off, but no other problems. As you mentioned- there are a lot more options at that size. I think it looks pretty good with that profile as well:
