Question 225/45/R18 -- 225/40/R18 difference?

Guys, i need two rear tires for my 8 and i went to a local shop yesterday and i was told that this tire size is basically designed for RX8 and the price is around $405 each. Michellin brand.

The price for 18" tires is too high in Cyprus as we import them all but anyway, they can give me the 225/40/R18 for $210.

Will it make a big difference if i put them in the front and keep the rear with 225/45 for few months?

Can tirerack ship international? -- If they can it will cost me a lot less to buy the bridgestone from there.

Yes, it's 22.5mm difference in overall diameter so it'll mess with the DSC and traction control.
You could run 245-40 which is only 6.5mm different overall diameter.
I know tire rack will ship to Canada but I don't know about Cyprus.

You need to find a new tire shop. 225/45-18 is the OE front size for the BMW E46 M3. Every decent tire and many lame ones come that size.

That tire shop is trying to rip you off or they have very poor selection. Go somewhere else. Order tires online from Vulcan Tire and find a tire shop to just mount them for you (should be like $20 per tire).

he's not in the US so shipping becomes an issue.

to the OP you may want to email tirerack or vulcan tire, discounttire.com and see who can possibly ship internationally to you.

As stated this tire shop is ripping you off. the OE size of 225/45 is slightly more than 225/40 state side but it should be nowhere near double. $20 USD more per tire would be more than average.

No. Only half of that (radius difference). It would also throw off you speedometer by quite a bit.

i have contacted tirerack and they can ship to cyprus with fast couriers.
The shipping is expensive but anyway, it goes around $50 per tire.

comparing to cypriot market i can buy them from tirerack for 60% less than from here. So i will possibly place the order soon .
