225/50R18 on stock wheels?

I'm looking at a set of winter tires, but i want to make sure they'll fit.....I know the stock tires' aspect ratio is 45....Will a 225/50R18 tire be ok? I assume they will be. Thanx!

there is a pretty significant markup between 17" winter tires and 18" winter tires. Mainly because of the lowered profile with going 18". No joke you can probably buy 17's with tires for just a tad more than it would cost to get 4 18" winters.

I was looking at tirerack.com yesterday.....I picked the cheapest winter tire/wheel package combo....With shipping, the estimated total came to roughly $950 (mounted and balanced w/o tpms).......18" winter tires only shipped come to just about $665...pretty big difference in price....A friend of mine can mount and balance tires to my stock wheels pretty cheap......If you know of a place where i can get a W/T package for much less than $950, let me know. Thanx

the difference isnt going to be that drastic, its pretty easy to do the math your self, stock is 225/45r18 what that means is the tire is 225 mm wide, the hieght of the side wall is 45% of the width of the tire, and the tire mounts a 18" rim.

so stock the side wall is 225 X .45% = 101.25 mm
your winter tire set up 225 X .50% = 112.50 mm

so there is roughly an 11 mm difference from the edge of the rim to to top of the tire. but that just one side, now you have to factor that there is another side wall on the opposite side of the tire so thats another 11 mm's. so there for your winter tires are going to sit 22 mm higher than your stock. thats for you to decide if they will fit or not

LOL thanks for the math lesson.

FYI, those will fit fine on a nonlowered car with stock offset/width wheels. If you lower the car or get different wheels for whatever reason it might not work up front.
