Im stretched... IM 225 which is normal for a x8 wheel, and im on an x8.5... havent had any problems.. speeds from 0-126 (AT) and no problems

And I know im suppose to be on a 245-255 tire at least.

HA HA...I'm thinking more the 225's on 10" wheels......

225's on an 8.5 is still in the realm of reasonable

I figure if you have to resort to strange and wonderful things to mount the tires......it can't be ideal

Helped a buddy mount 185's to 10" wheels once.....we had to use propane and a match to blow them onto the beads

I also saw what happened on a mild corner when one tire demounted and sent his car into the guard rail...that was a very expensive lesson for him... totaled his car with about 10K in mods and weeks of work...just to look cool

I don't pull my comments out of my ***.......And I stand by the Dangerous and Stupid comment..

The term "stretched tire" is very vague!

Would you consider those guys who fit wider tires onto wheels than which is recommended stupid and dangerous?

A simple stretch is neither stupid, nor dangerous - imo. Something basic, depending on sidewall sizing, can easily be pulled off safely. Funny no one ever called out deedubb, dark knight, or now, NYC drift king, for running stupidly dangerous sized tires - they are stretched to a similar extent as well. Nothing wrong with a simple stretch - again - imho.

The super stretched look has it's time and place and I am personally not into that look, though I was bordering it with the initial front tires that came on the prodrives. Driving on that excessively does have its risks. Obviously you greatly decrease the performance of a tire/wheel/car and the vehicle will handle worse than stock. That isn't the idea though, this is done for style. Shall we say anything done for style is automatically dangerous and stupid? Figure skating tricks certainly aren't par for the course but they do have their time and place.

You can't say something blatant like you did without assuming you'd receive negative feedback. Go onto a drag forum/thread and express this about their tire sizing style:

Tire manufacturers have guidelines for tire/rim sizes for a reason......It's called SAFETY

To condone this type of thing is blatantly UNSAFE and DANGEROUS

I'm sorry if I sound like someones parent...but this is getting ridiculous
You really think you'd escape with no negative comments? Furthermore, you really seemed to take offense from what he said - he was poking fun merely expressing an opinion just as you had. You then respond with this?

Someone should break something......you are an ***.......and obviously know **** about tires.....

So don't spout off on something you know **** all about.....
My point is different people have different opinions and views on various subjects. That's great that you shared a negative experience but that far from makes you the end all expert of the subject.

Please don't tell someone to break something, call me an ***, or assert I obviously know **** about _______. I'm just posting this to show it from a broader view...

What was the point of his bringing up the post...........other than being an ***....and from my point of view a misguided and stupid one at that

I think I quantified what I think is Dangerous and Stupid....

Slight stretches or overwides was not what I was talking about.......

Problem is that most of us have experience with this stuff...and at least have an idea of what is OK...or at least the trade-offs of what we are doing

Too often someone reads crap on a forum and does something that is espoused on there without really understanding what they are doing...and what could happen if they don't understand the limitations of the setup

I sure as hell don't want to be responsible for someone hurting themselves...

If you were 100% confident in your posting, he would be the one that looked like a clown by bringing it up in that manner. It looked like you were talking about any stretch because after all, even a small stretch is out of the manufacturer's guidelines.

I get your point of view though, I just thought it was odd you seemed to take such offense. I think it's pretty clear that those who don't know about stretch would have no reason to even want to try it. Luckily anyone who attempts an extreme stretch and doesn't know what they're doing will likely be the same guy who shops at retail tire stores that would refuse to mount a stretch anywhere near that dangerous and seemingly hazy safety line.

Oddly enough you never see forum member preaching against aftermarket lugs on OEM wheels - this is something else that dangerous in theory but first hand accounts of problems seem relatively rare. There's a difference between recommending not doing something for one's safety and condemning an idea is idiotic and stupid. There will always be that kid that will see something in the movies, on TV, or in magazines then proceed to try it.

Hope there's no bad blood, I'm merely vocalizing a viewpoint.
