Agressive stlye powder coated factory wheels??

Hey guys, great site, really like the layout of the whole msg board. As u can see, by my one post, im VERY new to the whole RX-8 scene. Im an advid member of MANY other boards, but just joined this one tonight out of pure interest for the car itself, so if my question seems simple and n00bish, please bare with lol

Ok here the deal, today at my local mall parking lot (It's Canada day, yah I live in Canada, so everything was shut down) they were running the cones. Was quite the interesting 5 hrs to watch, and had lots of cars. Including one privately owned and ran blue RX-8. I love blue the car comes in allready, but what caught my attention were his rims. They didnt appear "aftermarket", but they didnt appear the simple silver fat spoked rims I had seen around on other RX-8's. These wheels were more aggresive in style, and the 'fat spokes' to them were sorta etched. made the whole weheel look VERY agressive. Almost like the standard ones, yet slimmer and ethched. They were also power coated black which made them look madd hott!

My question is, are these rims a factory option? They look too similar to OEM for them to be aftermarket as far as I could tell. I know here in canda, that the Acura RSX wheels come stock jet coated black (I own one =) ), and in the USA, they dont. I see countless ppl on RSX boards, asking how/why some Canadian owned RSX's have dark, powder coated black wheels, and the answer is, the factory. They just come like that.

So is it the same case with the RX-8? Is their an option for a larger, more agressive looking wheel, and to also have them in black? Also could or is this an option available just to Canadian ones?

Again thanx for any help, and I'm really enjoying the site!

Welcome to the board. Good first post.

Nope, not an option as far as I know. Factory 16" wheels on the base-base auto, or 18" silver painted/coated wheels. Sounds like what you saw was a custom job. Pity you couldn't get a picture.

Are you sure they weren't the black chrome wheels -- same as stock 18's but coated in black chrome -- they look great and are available at every Mazda dealer.

...They very well could be...

...I'm not too sure though. Like I said, Im new to the RX-8 scene, and aside from engine info and such, I don' t really too much about the car. So they very well could be factory black chrome, but I dont think so. These things just looked soo friggin crazy! I was like WTF! when I saw them. I thought they were an option and I was like I want those for my car! lol Which I's why I came screaming on here lol Maybe if you could post up a pic of what they look like? I'm sure you guys would have more access and know where to find those pics then I would.

Yah i't is a damn shame I didn't have a camera. I never really knew they were doing th cones today, I got lucky and when dropping off my gf I saw them setting up. I asked a guy what they were doing he told me, and I went home and got a lawn chair, some beer and a buddy lol When I got back is when I peered my eyes on the beauty of the car lol I love the wheels, if thier not the factory black chrome, then i'll have to discover what they are.

The car is owned by a guy in the area im going to assume, I dont think any one out of province/country/city would make the drive just to auto-cross some cones in a mall parking lot lol So I think I'm gonna post on a local car blub msg board, and see if I can A) track down the driver, or B) track down the car at least. Maybe some one their will know what the wheels are.

Thanx for the replies guys!

Well, you could always TELL us what area you're in, and we might be able to help, since we might know the car! :p (you can use the 'location' field in your profile so it shows up every post).

Those wheels are definitely not Mazda sourced.

Regards,
Gordon

hehehehe

yah thats my bad, I sorta threw together a profile VERY quickly so I could come on here and ask my question.

I live in Nova Scotia Canada, Dartmouth-Halifax area. I actually managed to get ahold of the guy who owned the car and get a few pictures of his car. They are factory wheels as a matter of fact, so ppl on here were right and I was just mistaken, but he had got them powder coated black "azyiante" or something like that, basically black mettalic I suppose.

They look very nice off the blue body!

I guess my 'uneducated' were just mistaken when I saw them, but either way, wow. they look good for remaining factory.

Can you post the pics? I'd like to see what the factory wheels look like with a dark powder coat. I'm not a fan of the black chrome.
