anyone already put on snow tires?

here in new england, temp is dropping fast after few showers...the lowest is around 35F these days and they are saying that there is a chance of light snow later this week...

i usually hold out until at least thanksgiving in CT. i have a set of blizzaks on stock wheels that i swap for the winter. i haven't been driving around when it's at its lowest temps so i've been fine so far. once it is consistently below 40 degrees or we get some real snow, i know it's time to let go of the summer wheels and tires for the year.

guess i will wait for a month or so...what is a good price for a decent winter tire? i am seeing ~170/tire without all the installation fee etc., is it about right? (i am thinking of using stock rim)

unfortunately costco does not carry winter tire for stock rx8 rims... i guess i will have to pay everytime i swap winter/summer tires at other tire shops

find what you like and then research prices online. since you're in CT you can go to town fair tire and they'll price match and do free swaps for you. i went there but don't take advantage of the winter swap since i just got some separate wheels.

if you have a few extra dollars you can buy some inexpensive stock wheels or winter wheels from someone on the forum and never have to worry about swapping. since i don't care what they look like in the winter i don't mind if they have curb rash as long as there aren't any bends or cracks. if you don't either you can find some really cheap on here and then save yourself the hassle each winter and spring.

Sigh...mine are on already. Temps are below zero every morning and we had one snowfall that stuck around for a couple days this past weekend. What a terrible early start to winter.

I have a set of Nokian WRG2's which are (I'm told) an all-season compound with snow-tire pattern. They last longer than snows so I feel more comfortable putting them on a little earlier.

I put them on last weekend to avoid the "Oh crap! Snow already?" situation that seems to happen to many people.

I got a set of Michelin X-Ice Xi2 winter tires for my 8. I know my goodyear eagle f1's would not go through any snow.

I'm in Canada. Had my Blizzak LM-60's put on last week. They're horrible when they're dry, but totally amazing in the snow and slush.
