Article: How to Choose Street and Track Brake Pads
Hi Guys,
I wanted to post a link to an article I recently wrote about how to choose street and track brake pads. I know this has always been a popular topic on the forums, and one that creates a lot of confusion.
This is NOT an article promoting a specific brand or brands. It is intended to lay out the thought processes and variables that go into choosing a pad for any street or track condition.
As a representative for some of the top brake manufacturers in the aftermarket for the past 7 years, I’ve had the chance to address this topic in countless conversations with customers online, over the phone, or in person. Until now though, I’ve never had the time to pull my thoughts together and present them in a cohesive manner.
My hope is that this article will prevent some of the repetitive “what are the best brake pads?” questions we’ve all seen a million times. With a fundamental understanding of this topic in hand, we can hopefully elevate future conversations on this topic to a higher, more productive level.
I’d post the article here in its entirety, but it would probably take me 20 posts! Thanks and enjoy.
Jeff

Awesome article. Thanks a ton for this. Brakes have always been a rough point for me, and my (non-track) stories could probably raise the hair on the back of your neck. This helps tremendously.

I read this article through. It is an article i think more drivers should read as I am no pro Driver but I do driver often and push the car to the limits and from my history I geuss beyond my driving skill and or the cars limits... Brakes I think are very important and I have learned alot from the write up. After Recently and yes I mean last week... I crashed my 8 into the fencing of somones driveway... (sorry boout that) Lossing my CF GT-comp front bumper(1000 bucks down the pooper)... I realized that my brakes did not act like they should have.... After reading this I was enlighted as I thought I had good hawks but I now know I need better brake setup for my kinda kill yourself driving style........ I also should look into some lesson on how to drive from a pro.... Im sure it would help too.....
GJ on the article Its a good read!!

With some motorsport experience under your belt, you likely find yourself driving slower and more sanely on public roads.
