Aug. Sport Compact Car - Tien EDFC (Electronic Damping Force Controller)
Looks like Tien has this EDFC (Electronic Damping Force Controller) kit out for the 8 in Japan, according to the article in the Aug Sport Compact car (its was on a white 8), its a computer controled suspension that can be adjusted from inside the car to various conditions.
This is really cool, here is the website, although the 8 isn't listed yet. Hopefully this will be out soon.

Are there any non-JDM companies that sell coilover shocks for the RX-8? Also, the EDFC is only compatible with Tein products, no?

I didn't opt for the EDFC, so personally no. But with the Tein Flex, yes you can adjust the dampers from inside the car.
Just to clarify, as sometimes some get confused, you cannot adjust ride height with the EDFC, just dampening. If you want to change your ride height, you need to remove and adjust each coilover assembly.

Well, I have seen one or 2 companies which give you up to 18 settings that you can control. With those 18 settings, do you think the lowest would be softer than the stock car?
Its funny you mentioned that you cannot adjust ride height. I am wondering, is there anything out there that can help lower/raise you car with a touch of a button? Just curious...

I have no idea what you're looking for, so I'm just going to suggest you search.
Take the Tein Flex for what it is. Just a very basic coilover. Not much about them is high tech, if anything. Even the dampening adjustability is nothing spectacular as it's one dimensional. But it does let you play around a little bit. Since I daily drive my RX-8, I don't need to put on something like a Koni28, but I also didn't just want springs.

i have type flex and the edfc and ill tell u right now dont buy into the "soft" and "hard" wording....
the edfc on its "softest" is still brutally stiffer than stock.
damping force will change only so much of the ride....remember the front of this thing has 500lb springs. thats over double the stiffness of stock, ease the tension on the damper all u want and the springs will still knock out teeth
ps many companies brag about the # of setting they can change on the dampers, tein has 32 settings. its technically 16 settings bc they use "half" turns to get the #'s in between......(eg...a numer 19 setting is actually the number between 9 and 10 in the '16' mode) it allows a more precise adjustment. but in all honesty on the street 9,10, and 11 all feel the same. but 00 and 16 are worlds apart....maybe its just me but on setting 16 i feel it handles the best
