I'm in the process of getting ready to paint my calipers and decided I wanted to change all the Rotors while I have the wheels off. I noticed that a lot of members are now starting to do the same. I was wondering which Rotors you all think have Great Performance with a Reasonable Price Tag?

I would be interested in replacing my rear rotors... it does not appear as though anyone has a good suggestion yet.

Are you basically saying slotted Rotors are the best way to go? Or am I reading your information wrong?

I wasnt having this problem until the Dealership resurfaced my rotors due to noise when applying the brake. Because my Rotors must be warped now because when I brake semi-hard after going anything above 70 I feel that vibration! That Sucks because it wasnt there before! Whats your suggestion?

That's right. Slotting provides both the ventilation needed to prevent pad float from offgassing, and an escape path for abraded dust. So does drilling, but slotting doesn't remove as much metal as drilling (the more mass the better for dissipating heat) and doesn't create all of the stresspoints that can lead to rotor fractures.

The question is whether any are available for the RX-8 yet. I'd go for the ATE PowerDisc rotors that I mentioned, but ATE's usually a bit slow to come out with new models. Took years before I could find them for my GTI.

Resurfacing ("turning") the rotors is useless.

If they are warped, it means that heat has affected the temper of the metal, and they will warp again.

It also means that they no longer dissipate heat evenly, but will have hot spots instead. Heat affects the stopping ability, so imagine a hot spot on the rotor as being a 'slippery' spot where braking is less effective. So that grab-slip-grap-slip (exaggerated, but you get the theory) as the rotor is turning translates into less braking action and it *feels* like they're warped, even though a micrometer may show them to be 'straight'.

If your rotors are ever grooved/warped enough for you to consider having them resurfaced, don't. Just replace them.

I don't personally know of any for the RX-8. Right now, if it were me, I'd replace your bad ones with stock and wait for ATE to come out with something, but that's just what *I'd* do. You'll have to pick your own poison.

I'll try to complain to the dealership on Thursday when I go in to get my lights replaced. I haven't drove any differently and this problem didn't come until they resurfaced my rotors. I try to get them to replace them.

The place to order your new rotors is www.R1Concepts.com I put mine on last week....they look so awesome,. $260.00 shipped.. I paid a little more for Drilled only..I don't like the look of drilled and slotted. I found these guys on ebay....just go to ebay and type RX8 brake rotors.....they have a huge rating,,,98% I will for sure use them again....anyone need any advice on changing them, drop me a line....Took me like 40 mins tops to change all four.....I will post pictures soon...

Project Mu Rotors. Just under $700 for all 4. Cortc put them on his car. Theyre light weight and look good.

Yes, please post pics if you would! Have you felt any difference in braking and I'm guessing they were OEM size, so they fit right in without changing anything?

I'm glad this thread got started, 'cause I was gonna replace my rotors before the hubs started rusting. I found brakeworld.com.

They sell cross-drilled hubs from DiscItalia for both '04 and '05 RX-8's. They don't list the product under the '05 option, but I called them.

The DiscItalia hubs fit the factory calipers and sell for $750 for all four, front and rear. You can see the product detail under the '04 RX-8 option.

I think this is what I'm going to get.

It appears to me, that the only rotors offered in a 2 piece design (in stock size) with aluminum hats are the project mu . However at $1360 for all 4, no thanks. I don't think replacing the stock rotors is worth it without the weight savings of the 2 piece design, so I guess I'll wait for someone else to come out with some.
