Biggest Rims On An 8?

What's the largest diameter rim to have ever been shoe-horned under the guards of an 8?
Someone here in Oz has squeezed 20's under the front and 22's at the rear I think.

The real question is what are the biggest wheel widths that can be fitted under the stock fenders without rolling them?? I would be interested to know this as I am thinking about putting some 19/9" widths on the front, and some 19/10" on the back (and run 245's/275's respectively). I don't want to do any body mods...

Can I inquire why? What performance gains will you get, or is it strictly looks? When you consider the offsets, etc. have to be very careful.

Unless it is a miracle titanium custom rim you will lose performance. It will probably be substantially heavier than the stock rim (adding unsprung weight is not good), and the wheels will look like rubber bands increasing ride harshness/stiffness. In most cases the 18" rims is optimum for performance. It is strictly a bling factor.

i've never seen anyone with 22's, but theres a few 20's on here.

a handful of 20's look alright on the 8, but I'd stick to 19's

you go above 18s on the 8 'form over function' comes into play--hey you'll pull more boppaz (groupies) with chromed out 20s--you won't get too much respect from any car nut tho.

if you don't want guard mods go with cortc's sugested offsets and make sure your rims are two piece if you want to find the right offset. 9 and 10" one piece rims with offsets over 40+ are hard to find.

some people here found 19's lighter than stock (not much, about 1lb) and with low profile tires the overall wheel diameter will be smaller than stock. My question is, will that help performance or not?

I think it will, as long as the wider tires are not as heavy as the potenzas. If one tries to keep the tire/rim weight almost the same as stock, he will benefit from the 19s, because of the better grip and smaller wheel diameter. Looks too

What do you think?

There are lighter than stock 19" rims, but then again there are lighter (much lighter) than stock aftermarket 18's as well. If you get low profile 19" tires you might help stiffen the handling a bit because there would be less sidewall flex, but the tradoff would be a harsher/stiffer ride. If you are spending major money on a 19" rim with a lighter tire to replace the stock 18" rims with the RE040's, you might as well get lighter 18" aftermarket rims with lighter tires. If absolute performance is what you are looking for a set of light 18" with lighter tires would make more sense and still give you the same look. You can get the same sizes in 18" in regard to contact patch as you can in the 19" not to mention there are 18" rims that are about 5 lbs. lighter than the stock rims. I would be pretty surprised if you could find a larger width (275) 19" tire that would weigh less than an 18" 225 tire, unless you really lowered the sidewall profile (25 or 30 series tire) in which case you would lose the vertical profile of even the stock tire (leaving even more gap between the tire and fenderwell.
