Brake Caliber cover?

That has to be the definition of RICE.........totally useless mod...
actually would hold in heat and make things worse.
The would probably melt from the heat if you actually used your brakes hard

I actually like painted calipers that match the car with a PoLak "RX-8" decal however, this plastic snap on toy stuff is ridiculous. It's almost as bad if not worst as that motorized ricer wing.

Actually, this and the other thread linked above highlight the fact that Mazda REALLY underdid the visual side of the brake package.
They're fantastic OEM brakes IMHO - why did Mazda allow them to present so poorly in that mishapen shape and dirty grey colour??
One of this car's prime reasons for being is it's handling qualities, and brakes are a big part of that. When other manufacturers make brakes that work this well they usually go to a bit of effort to make them look good and turn them into a selling feature. Especially when also fitting rims that expose so much of the caliper.
When Mazda Australia developed some prototype turbo cars they ended up fitting AP calipers and rotors. When asked why they admitted that the OEM brakes were fine but it was felt an appearance upgrade was needed.
Obviously function is paramount and maybe Mazda decided it's budget was better spent improving other aspects of the car's appearance but this is a missed opportunity in my view.
And just think - had Mazda made the brakes look as good as they perform, we wouldn't have anybody considering this totally rice product.
