As for the comment "please buy a smart car, because you are not....", I will not retaliate with a sarcastic remark to that. Now let's see who is smarter.
Let me clear things up. I like the RX8. This is why I joined this forum. I want to ask questions from people who own them. I apologize to anyone if I offended their feelings about the car. Believe me, that was not my intent. My opinion about brake dust and squealing was not intended to talk crap about the RX8. I still think it is a well engineered car. My point is this, who cares if I don't like brake dust or squealing brakes. That is my opinion. A brutally honest response does not have to be so insulting. There are ways to write a diplomatic response.

No, I didn't follow him around. Where did I say I followed him around? He passed me on the freeway. Yes, I like driving clean cars. What's wrong with that? If you come to my house, it is clean too. I am a well organized clean guy. What's wrong with that? And yes, I wash my cars regularly. I never take them to a car wash. I just don't like seeing black wheels after just two days of driving. Again, that's just my opinion.
So to all of you who gave me an informative response, thank you. To those who think I shouldn't own a sports car or think I'm not smart, thank you also. There will be one less guy you'll have to deal with in this forum.

Well, if all what bothers you about the RX-8 is the above average brake dust, then the solution is simply what was suggested earlier: get new brake pads right away that don't cause the same amount of dusting. You may even get away with putting the new pads only in the front, as the vast majority of the dust will happen on the front wheels.
If you like everything else about the car, this should not be a deciding factor... but it really depends on what you're after. If the Lexus IS gives you everything you're looking for (incl. no brake dust), then that's the right choice for you. Personally, I see the two cars to be quite different, so if the Lexus appears to be what satisfies you, then the RX-8 is not the car you want.
Oh, and regarding the 20" wheels: If I'd buy the car, I'd probably stick with the stock wheels. Those 20" monsters are likely very heavy, plus the dealer will try to charge you a pretty penny for them as being "extra". So tell them to put back the stock wheels and get a better price plus have a lighter set of shoes for your new car.
