take it to the dealer. its under a TSB. they can either replace them(the rust will come back) or paint them under warranty. or you could just get some aftermarket brakes.

TSB= technical service bulletin. you just take it to a Mazda dealer that is near you. you can ask them if it is still under warranty by providing them your VIN. i can't remember where to find that TSB but just tell your dealer they are rusted and they should do something about it. if it is still under warranty it is free, otherwise, i'd recommend some nicer aftermarket brakes.

What are yyour aftermarket rotors? It will matter depending on what they are made of. Mine are holding up well, no rust at all and look good. See my sig.

Clean them with brake cleaner and then paint them black.

i have rx7store slotted rotors.

would you just brush paint them or spray? and how would you get the shape of the circle to be painted on? someone suggested to just be a little generous on the painting and let the brake pads outline the circle. is that advisable?

Silver paint. Using the silver color, it will look good afterwards. The paint job will last about a 1 year or much longer if your lucky. Type of silver paint you choose may have an effect as well.

You may be able to get your dealer to do it. Also, the dealer should/would do a good job and should know what they are doing, this will help the paint job last longer.

I cleaned with brake cleaner, taped off the rotors and then brushed on the paint. Time consuming but fairly easy.

$3.00 for rustoleum. Works like a charm. I use it on everything. Though my Racing Brake rotors came painted.

Yeah the boys at my mazda dealer painted them for free. It was when I just got the car and everyone was b!tching about this prob. I think the new RX-8 don't have this prob anymore but I don't know 100%.

Yup I did mine silver rustoleum for about $3.99 a can at homedepot and $3. for painters tape and $2.50 for the sunday paper under the car. lol it should take you about 30min a wheel to paint but it was fun. I love painting.
I also painted my brake calipers well I was doing the rotors. Looks great!

Are some of us talking about rotors and some the caliper? My rotors have a slight rust patina after every time I wash the car, but it's gone after the first brake application. My '07 has the calipers painted a gunmetal silver (my car is Sunlight Silver) and there is no sign of rust on those.

I'm pretty certain they are talking about the rotor hats. Painting the friction surface would be silly and I doubt that Mazda would be willing to paint calipers.

Definitely talking about the rotor hubs and not the surface area the brake pads uses to slow the car down.

I bought my 8 a few weeks back.

There's rust on the rear disks, the dealer told me that it would come off with a bit of use....

I think he's full of it because it's still there.
I asked him about it again more recently, and he actually told me I wasn't driving it hard enough (nice one!).

Anyone else had this problem before?
How can I get it off without replacing the disks?
It must be putting extra wear on the pads...

Thanks in advance!

^True. But on the back there is a small amout of space that is not used where the pad and the rotor touch. So just paint that part and your good.
