Brakes Recommendation

I need to replace my stock brakes. Do I need to replace the pads only or pads+rotors?

Should I go with the stock Mazda replacement or any other recommendation?

Thanks,

You should not need to touch the rotors unless they are under minimum thickness. They might to tell you the rotors are warped but that's pretty unlikely.

Stock is fine if all you're doing is regular driving. The stock brakes are actually very good.

What he said. New rotors are not needed unless they are that warn down - which they could be, I just replaced what are probably my stock rotors from 04 with new slotted ones (but that cost $750). I only did this because I was getting a big lip going with the rotors.

Pads are cheap, if you are just daily driving, any nice pair of ceramic pads should do you well or go OEM if you want to pay the extra little penny.

So...I'm thinking of getting the Mazdaspeed brake pads which are $150 online for front and $150 for rear. That's a total of 4 pads, can someone help to double confirm that i wouldnt need to change the rotors and i only need 2 pads for front and 2 for the back.

I looked at hawks and they sell 4 pads for front for about $70, so I'm getting confused how many pads are required for the car.

pleas let me know. is the mazdaspeed worth it? why do the hawks come up with i google mazdaspeed brakes?

let me know, thanks! appreciate all the help.

Got it. so does that mean i have to buy 2 sets of the mazdaspeed brakes for both the front and the rear which equals up to $600 then. That's pricey.

MAZDASPEED RX8 SPORT BRAKE PADS 2004-2008

The photo only shows 2... I'm not sure if it's just the photo or if the actual purchase will have 4.

Also, do you know if that cap will show? I like the color and want to show off them off when installed.

that would be for both front wheels. you will see a very small amount of the blue but most of the pad will be hidden. i would still go with the hawks but its your money

Do you realize that a Subaru Impreza is not a Mazda RX-8? This is an RX-8 forum, hence the name "rx8club.com". That isn't a trivial name that doesn't matter.

I recommend you go over to NASIOC (North American Subaru Impreza Owner's Club) which sounds like it is a much more relevant forum for your question.

I bought my rx8 and when I autocross it a couple weeks later, the brakes were literally smoking. Needless to say I ordered some new brakes a couple days later.

Hawk hps with centric rotors. Great setup, didn't fade on me once at a 90+ degree track day. I could pretty much out brake anything out there.. Which was good, seeing as how the fuel pump was failing.
