bridgestone s-03 pole position question

I was thinking of getting bridgestone s-03 pole position tires, does anyone here have them, and how do they compare to the pirelli pzero nero tires or the Pirelli PZero Rosso Asimmetrico

i did a search and couldnt find what i am looking for. i also looked at tirerack.com and these three are the ones i am down to. i did compares for them there too, but figured since it was going on the 8, it would be better to hear from people with an 8

thanks

They are absolutely great tires. Awesome traction dry and especially wet even when worn.

The only downside I could see to putting them on the RX8 is they are a rather heavy tire so you may notice a bit of a slowing effect from mounting them.

I have a set of the Pole Positions on the stock rims. EXCELLENT tires. Makes it even harder to break 'em loose... but that is a small price to pay for the handling they give... They are also very quiet...

Another thing: It seems that the tread pattern GREATLY resists following lines in concrete, and those metal-grate brigdes. Its so nice to be able to drive around downtown and not be pulled into oncoming traffic when going over a drawbridge.....

Whats the treadware rating on the Pole Positions compared to the stock 040s? (I was looking to upgrade to the 050's in the spring.)

Speaking of bridgestones.. what is the difference between the 050's and 050A's?

RE050 is all weather and isn't as good of a performance tire than RE050A.
Lets put it this way... a Scion tC comes stock with RE050. A Honda S2000 comes stock with RE050A

Pole Positions are definitely a level above the Neros & I would say the Rossos. The Neros are 3 season tires, in that they have decent summer/dry traction, and decent wet handling. The Pole Positions have much better dry handling, but only average wet handling. Depends on what you are looking for. If all out dry traction is what you want I would also look at the Falken Azenis RT-615's. If it is price & dry/wet then the Nero makes more sense, also look at the Toyo T1R of BF Goodrich Comp TA KDW2's.

love the s-03. I did remember something interesting. I would say about 3000 miles on the tires, for about 500 miles. The tire was ABSOLUTELY hazardous to drive.. I think it has a lot to do with the first layer wearing out and before the second layer kicking in? Anyone had that problem? THat was one of the tire I can use to keep up with cars on race tires in rainy racing condition at the track. If I had the $, I would get a set of those as my rain tires

I used to run S03's on my Lexus. They were great tires when they lasted the 12K miles.

I've had my SO3's for close to 8k miles. Very little tread wear, and they still perform great.

I never got any sliding or anything, even when new, with mine. They folks at Discount Tire cleaned them with a "special" liquid to remove oil from them before putting them on the car. (That was last spring.)

I'm using Bridgestone RE-01R tires on mine, 245/40-19 front and rear on 19" Enkei wheels, and I LOVE them! I've got more grip than I can realistically use on the street. Overall tire and wheel combo saves approximately 3 or 4 pounds per wheel over stock 18" wheels and Dunlop tires. The do work great in the wet too, but probably would suck in the snow as they have no small sipes in the tread whatsoever.

PhotoMunkey, how many miles do you have on those tires and what's the wear on them now? I am HIGHLY interested in the wear characteristics of the RE-01Rs; that will probably be the decision maker between whether I get RE-01Rs or RE050A Pole Positions.

Has anyone used these tires on the track? I'd like to get a better tire for HPDE days etc. These are currently a great price though, thoughts?

I bought a set for HPDE. They're at a $100 discount at Tire Rack right now.
Probably won't be using them until this Fall however, as I still have plenty of tread on the OEM tires still after 3 track days.
