Calling all owners with 18x9 (rear) wheels

Hi guys,

I know there are threads after threads about will this or that size fit. However, what i am trying to find out here is something a bit more specific. I have searched for hours now and i know i posted this question in "Will this fit thread" before. However, i just don't feel comfortable to go ahead before someone who owns the same size wheel as below to let me know how it actually goes.

So if there is someone happened to own the same size wheel as i list below and lowered to around the same height, could you please let me know whether you need to roll guard or any camber adjustment just so the wheel won't scrap? Also how about when you have another three passenger on board? Would it then scrap?

I am more considered about the rear wheel size btw

Front: 18x8 offset +35
Rear: 18x9 offset +35
Front tyre: 225/45/18
Rear tyre: 245/40/18 or any reasonable size that will allow the above rim size to fit without any rubbing/scrapping.
Height: Lowered with Eibach Pro kit (Well, sorry, i ain't too sure how much it dropped, would think it's around 28MM front & back)

Thank you so much for all your help!!!

Oh, btw, this is the rim i am after...

Thanks heaps for the confirmation narotordo! That's exactly what i am after. However, can you also tell me how the car goes with all four people on board? Would it make the tyre scrap?

One more thing, you mentioned that yours is lowered too. Is it all suspension set lowered or just change the spring lowered? Coz when the whole suspension is changed, it can stiff up (in most of the cases) the car, and the distance the wheel will travel between the car and wheel won't be as much as a spring lowered car.

Thanks again hey!

PS. Thanks for the photo, that looks absolutely sweet! And really, colored edge rim rules~lol

Yes, it will fit fine. Do you mind if I ask why you want a staggered setup? If I were you I'd get 18x9 +35 all around with 245/40's.

Depending on how much you're lowered, you might scrape with 4 people in the car (if you're just on springs) with c'overs you wont (depending on how stiff you make them)

This could have easily been addressed in the Will It Fit thread because all you really want to know is if 18x9 +35 with a 245/40 will fit.

I read the first post and all the replies. Seems to be a common setup and not too aggressive to be concerned about.

Hi Ross Dawg, it's very nice of you and thanks for the answer again!

There are two reasons i would go for 18x8 at front and 18x9 at back. Firstly, my current tyres (225/45/18) still get a lot of meat left, and if i do go for the 18x9 all around, then i need to purchase the whole set and give up the current one. I really don't want to do it, coz it's gonna be a waste and you hardly get much money back by selling second hand tyre. I know someone out there would love to stretch their tyre to make it look "cool" and i believe i can do it to with my current tyre size. But I really don't want to risk it and make the rim vulnerable to pothole.

The second thing is just my personal preference. I prefer the front wheels just look a tad smaller than the rear especially on RX8 (on 350Z i probably don't mind). In my head, front wheel is like the arm of a person and rear is like the leg. I just think it looks a bit odd if the arms are exactly as bulky as the legs. Not sure if you know what i am saying, but that's all, really. I would really love to go for 18x8.5 for the front, but this specific rim doesn't come with that size unfortunately.

Currently I lowered my car with Spring setup only. Eibach spring drop the car by 1.2INCH front & back. It should be quite sensible, but don't know whether it is enough to create chaos with the size i am after. Practicality is quite important for me when i choose the wheel. Coz after all, i need to live with it for couple of years.

I did tried to put the rim on for couple of second just to see how it looks. But the rim looks so close to the inner arch of car. That's why i am a little concerned. It looks fantastic. However, i am sure if every time i have a passenger at the back and front, it scraps, i won't feel so fantastic anymore? And RX8 is designed to take four people (whether it's actually spacious at the back is arguable), so it won't be too surprising that rx8 owner will have a lot of chances to carry more than 2 passengers.

The only way i could possibly make sure all this is to ask whoever has EXACTLY the same setup (or at least as close as possible), and the answer would probably be the most accurate. I am not saying the answer from people who don't own the same rim size have no credibility, but it's just "simpler" this way. Well, at least that's the best i can think of?

I'm planning on 18x9 +35 all around with 255x40 next Spring (non-lowered).

I don't believe a staggered setup is the way to go with this vehicle.

The car was designed for symmetrical, non-staggered, wheel sets.

I think Goodwin Racing says it best: "Don't be fooled into running the staggered front and rear wheel sizes so popular on the net."

Its especially not good to run staggered on a perfectly balanced car to begin with, itll throw off the handling (UNLESS you've made other suspension modification to correct under steer (sways etc))

Mn...I can see what you guys try to say now....

That now become a very difficult choice for me now....or i should just go for all 18x8 +35 which i have confirmed it will fit fine... but that +15 short, i wonder whether it will deteriorate the handling too....

Thanks~! But i am concerned that with my current setup, without a firmer full suspension change, it might still scrap...

But do you mind show some picture of your car? I just want to have another look at it and see how it looks like at front? Thanks!!

First off, it's spelled scrape.

I don't really understand your concern. 35 profile won't rub, even lowered. And I don't see what your current setup is.

The stock supension is more than adequate.

Again, I guess I'm just not getting your concern.

Same here

And there's no way this, or something extremely similar, was not already posted in the will it fit thread. It's only a 9 inch +35 freaking wheel! Of course it'll fit in the back, and with a +35 offset a 9 inch wheel will definitely fit in the front too...
