Tire Specs: Goodyear eagle gt 255/40/17
Rating: 8
Vehicle: 2004 RX-8 MT
Location: Ohio
Driving Conditions: rain and shine once in the winter just spun in the driveway
Driving Style: sprinted at times
Miles Driven on Tires: 6,000
Would Buy Tire Again? Yes
Comments:
While they are concidered a all season tire they hug the pavement very well also in the rain with the tread pattern. A great tire for the money on a everyday driver and a 30k tire

I wouldn't urinate on 90% of the tires listed. You guys have no trouble dropping 42 bucks into the tank every 280 miles but you're gonna cheap out on rubber that only has to be purchased once every 30K? Put the top dogs--Star Specs, PS2s, AD08s, etc--on your car and nothing else. Unless you drive in snow or course..
Certainly one of the most pointless threads posted in a while, needs a tow to the a more suitable area i.e. the Lounge

I agree Vlaze, some people are just idiots.
Back on topic, there's no reason to move a f*cking tire thread to the Lounge... let's get more reviews in here.
Thanks.

^The problem is there is no "Best Tire" for the RX8..It all depends on the application...
Some people might say the Kumho Ecsta SPT is the best gripping tire they have ever had...Untill they drive on some RE-11's or Star Spec's...
It's hard to give an educated opinion on a tire until you've driven on a bunch of them...That's what Team was trying to get at.
People here that think some tires are great...Well others who have done some testing might disagree..

^Yes, and no. There is driving conditions (which would be tracking/auto-x for those who are dick-touched about this thread), and driving style so people have an idea what to attach the reviewer's opinions to so they can get an idea if it would or would not work well for what they want. Someone reviewing a sticky summer tire for tracking won't appeal much to those who want an all summer tire for dry and wet surfaces and so forth.
I do agree people have to do more than just drive their car down the road to give some sufficient information in their review; any tire, can be fine driving down the road in dry or rain even with little tread. They have to push the car in the corners on different road conditions whether it be turning onto another road (90 degree turn) or simply corners on the road when going around them. Then you have downpours and driving through them so forth.
This is why I've held back reviewing my tires until I get sufficient info trying all applications for where I use my car and then noting at the end what my setup is which is running a bit of negative camber with the car drop.
It may be cluttered a bit, but no matter how you cut it this is more informative than simply reviewing what someone says does well for their car on a tire site.
I will say, people who are reviewing their tires should be more like a critic instead of just saying there tire was perfect, because they all have some con or fault to them; there is no such thing as a perfect tire for all applications/driving styles/car setup. IF, someone only talks about how great a tire is, then I will say they need to drive more various brands/models to get a better idea. However, if they properly critique a tire based on what I stated above, then it doesn't matter how many tires they ran as they are giving a proper review of a tire for their application/setup/driving style. For example, my Hankook V12's can easily at a 90 degree turn on a wet road break loose when I take the turn hard, I don't need to review more tires to state this as I am telling people what it does on my car when I push it taking a turn and it's not a comparison nor am I stating it's the best gripping tire. I'll give pro's and con's to my feedback. This will give people a better census to narrow down what may work for them.
Regardless of how you feel, this thread is a start for getting relevant feedback towards just our cars instead of relying on little Billy who down the road said this such and such tire worked awesome on his beater or his mom's SUV, or his motorcycle and therefore the same brand must work awesome as well for the proper size for our 8's. You get the idea.

I've had RE040, RE050A-PP and now KDW2
All are 225-45-18
Daily Driver, summer only.
Aggressive street driving.
The RE040 tires were loud, scary on cold wet days, greasy on hot days. Snappy response, predictable in the dry.
I had these on the car for two summers
RE050A-PP were not as loud as RE040, better grip but also scary on cold wet days. Really mushy when new but the response improves as the thread wears down. Still greasy in hot weather. These were on the car for two summers.
KDW2 so far is an awesome value. Noisier than the RE050A-PP but much less than the RE040. The grip is on par with RE050A-PP but the price is 60%. Using stock rim and tire width the responsiveness with full tread is like the RE050 at half tread depth. I've been quite impressed with this tire over the last two months. No cold wet days yet but I suspect that these will be similar to the others. Hot weather seems to make these tires better.
I would buy these tires again.

Tire Specs: Continental ExtremeContact DWS 225/45R17
Rating: 9
Vehicle: Subaru Legacy GT
Location: Knoxville, TN
Driving Conditions: Rain, Snow, Sleet, Dry
Driving Style: Aggressive
Miles Driven on Tires: 10000
Would Buy Tire Again? Yes
Comments: Oh my! The foul weather traction on these were simply amazing. Dry is where they took a few thousand miles to reduce the tread-squirm, then they got a lot better. Fantastic impact absorption and ride quality. Sold car.
Tire Specs: Dunlop SP Sport Signature (W&Y) 225/45R18
Rating: 8
Vehicle: 2006 RX8
Location: Knoxville, TN
Driving Conditions: Rain, Dry
Driving Style: Aggressive
Miles Driven on Tires: 2,000
Would Buy Tire Again? Yes unless the DWS is available
Comments: These are pretty decent. Not as impressive as the DWS in the rain, but not bad either. Better dry traction than the DWS. I guess that's the tradeoff.

Thanks all, Great Thread.
One favor. Each of these tires is different. Each of you likely figured out the best street and track pressures to use for both wear (street) and performance (track). Any way to get updates with those pressures? We have a light car, many of these tires are running at around half their rated load, and it is hard to get pressure right without waiting for the tire to wear. I may have trashed my G-Force Plus's this way, um, before I tore the little tread blocks off the at the track...
So, pressure updates? DD and Track? Please?
Thanks,

Anyone have experience with the Continental ExtremeContact DW (NOT DWS)...This is the Max Performance summer version and got awsome reviews on Tire Rack.
My current tires are the S. Drives and I love them. Great bang for the buck.
Tire Specs: Kumo Mx 245/40/18
Rating: 7
Vehicle: 2005 RX-8
Location: Miami
Driving Conditions: Daily driving - city/highway commuting
Driving Style: Aggressive
Miles Driven on Tires: 30k +
Would Buy Tire Again? No...See below
Comments: Good tire for the money but the S. Drives out class them in every way except maybe strait line performance.
Tire Specs: Yoko S. Drive 245/40/18
Rating: 9
Vehicle: 2005 RX-8
Location: Miami
Driving Conditions: Daily driving - city/highway commuting
Driving Style: Aggressive
Miles Driven on Tires: ?? I dont remember but they need to be replaced.
Would Buy Tire Again? Yes
Comments: These tires were exclent but I have no track experience with them. I will say they are the best wet weather tire I have purchased to date. My old Kumho Mx's had a tad better traction in a strait line launch but when the twisty's came into play the Yoko's were awsome! The kumos had a spungy side wall but the Yoko's were just so predicable. When they broke lose they were easy to control.

Has anyone tried these? I'm looking at Michelin Primacy MXM4 it's a new tire that is symmetrical, so it can be rotated from side to side not just front to rear.

I know I'm late to the party here, but this comment makes me laugh. You're complaining about people not buying the most expensive high performance tire they can find, and you're getting 30K on whatever you're running? Really? I don't even track my car and I don't get close to 15K on my RE050A Pole Positions, and those were far from the most expensive tire I could find.
I wouldn't urinate on 90% of the tires listed. Tire Specs: Handkook Ventus Evo V12 K110 - 225/40r18
Rating: 9
Vehicle: RX8 GT 07 6spd Auto
Location: West Texas
Driving Conditions: Motorsports Ranch Cresson Texas - Dry perfect temps
Driving Style: Aggressive on track - careful on street
Miles Driven on Tires: 1000 miles
Would Buy Tire Again? Yes
Comments: Stickiest tire I've ever had, and temp doesn't seem to matter much. With only about 400 miles on them, they gave great predictable traction at 65 deg f ambient temp as they did at 85 deg ambient. In other words this is the safest most forgiving tire I've ever seen, and I haven't even seen them in the wet. As for some people noticing soft sidewalls, yeah, they feel like a low tire. I found that they just feel numb, but stay where aimed, and slowly give up traction when pushed. Tire is soft, quiet, and makes car feel planted.
Notice I put lower profile 40 series on, and it was still softer than my SPT's in 225/45r18. The 225/40r18 Hankkook V12's seem to perfectly fit my Enkei 7.5 x 18 wheels with 38 offset which puts me with 24mm wider track all around, and they are 23lbs instead of 25lbs so I lost 2lbs on already light (19lbs I think) wheels. Win!
I settled on pressures of about 36 front- 34 rear @ 60 deg f ambient for street and track, and or maybe max 40 hot front and 38 hot rear.
UPdate: When I got up to 46 hot front and 43 hot rear they REALLY started working right on the track, and still feel soft to leave pressure until next track day. Phenomenal!

Tire Specs: Kumho Ecsta SPT 225/45r18
Rating: 7
Vehicle: RX8 GT 07 6spd auto
Location: West Texas
Driving Conditions: Mostly dry good mild weather driving 300 miles to track
Driving Style: Aggressive on track - cautious on street
Miles Driven on Tires: 20k miles worn out - this mileage OK
Would Buy Tire Again? No
Comments: Only fair in the rain, rough, firm, noisy, and makes steering feel loose. At limit on track takes 5 or 10 minutes to warm up to a little grip, then squeels like a pig as it lets go. Spt's cost approx $105, Hankook V12 k110's cost approx. $125, and I got cheaper with rebate. IMO that the Hankook's are the best bottom $ tire period, unless for some reason you prefer a loose but firm, precise tire with lower grip like the SPT's.

[QUOTE=Ryan2008;3611579]So I was thinking we could all post our likes/dislikes on specific brands of tires we bought to help everyone on their next decision for what kind of tires to buy.
The following format (like most tire websites have) should help organize it the best.
Tire Specs: Make, Model and Size
Rating: 1-10 (1 being poor, 10 being amazing)
Vehicle: RX8 or any other car you own
Location:
Driving Conditions:
Driving Style: Granny, Average, Aggressive
Miles Driven on Tires:
Would Buy Tire Again? Yes or No
Comments:
tire spec: yokohama advan, S4, 235/50/17
rating: 8.5 (setup dependent)
vehicle: '07 rx-8 GT
location: southern california
driving conditions:mostly dry, occassional rain, rough surface street here and there
driving style: 85% normal 15% mild aggressive
miles on tire: 6k miles
buy again?: yes, maybe
-other info: 400 treadwear, AA traction, A temperature, Y rated, 25lbs.
comments: (tire is 26.4 O.D. on 17x9 +40 street rims/RB spring combo)
highs:low price w/rebate, high treadwear rating, all-season usage and great as daily to "cushion" bumpy surfaces. big overall diameter, but fills tirewell nicely. rim guard is a plus and clears driveways.
lows: high side profile contributes to more cornering roll and lazy feedback. moderate aggressive driving recommended due to lower limitations. lower gearing hurts urgency acceleration.
*interested in nitto NT05 owner feedback (include size of tire pls)
