Dunlops vs Potenzas

Anyone have any opinions on the stock 225/45/18 Dunlop 8090s vs. the Potenza RE040s. Are they both similar in wear, grip and performance or is one better than the other.

Thanks

I got close to 30,000 miles out of the Dunlops. I don't think any Potenzas can come close to that .

I have a set of each on oems and don't know which to keep. I am replacing one set with 245/40/18s. The Bridgestones have a larger rim protector lip which I like though.

I got 38,000 on my stock Potenzas...all freeway miles. Rotated the tires twice and still had some more miles on them...but upgraded to 19's.

I guess the tires are comparably equal for wear and performance. I like the rim protector edge better on the Bridgestones, so I will keep them.

Thanks

I actually liked the tires so much I bought a brand new set from a guy in my area so I could mess around on them at the autocross.

The treadwear on the Dunlops is nearly 300 while the Bridgestones are in the 180 range. The Bridgestones will wear out much faster.

It depends how you maintain your tires really but I would go with Dunlop, Potenza's are shitty coz the tire noise is annoying after very short use.

I beg to differ!

im runing 245/40/18's
Potenza Re o 1R's and they are by far the best tires ive had on my 8! the only bad thing i can say about my old tires is they did wear out kinda quick only after 17K miles.. making two round trips to chicago with many many many burn outs =]]

im at 7/32nds front and back and ive already racked up 20K miles on my REO1r's

and the road noise is Minimal.. my yokohomas were crap they ran out after 17K miles and had no traction CRAPPY tire.. with not so many many many burn outs and 1 autox

I replaced the stock Dunlops on my car at about 15k miles. Ran a set of Potenza s-o3's untill 27k miles and I'm now using Dunlop's Direzza Z1's. So far I like the Z1's a lot on the street.

I had the Dunlop 8090's and loved them. I have the S-03's which are pretty good they grip really well they were on sale at tirerack. I have read bad things about the Potenza RE040 on the rx8. Do a search.

I got 25,000 miles out of my 040's with a little tread to spare (mostly suburban driving). My 245 40/18 050's are a little quieter and did great autocrosssing in a downpour yesterday. Only 8,000 miles on the new ones, but they look like they'll wear the same.

I have a buddy that can get me a 35% discount on Bridgestones, and was looking at 245/40's all around with Potenza RE050 or RE960A. I can't help but guess that with the discount, the Bridgestones are a no brainer.

I only got 18,000 out of my original RE040s. They were garbage. I've driven on the 8090's (actually they were 8000's which are essentially the same thing) in a BMW 325 and they were great and had a super smooth ride.

RE040 FTL.
