Hi. Someone on the form has said you all runnign 19" with those springs on, or your rx8 lowered on 19". Is this true? if so is there any pics of this? Back to the exhaust, whats the sound like, very loud? sporty? deep tone etc?

thanks again

Phil,
I'm running 19s yes, but I have the JIC FLTA2 coil over set up. Here's a pic anyway. And click the link for the sound clip.

Hey! thanks for the reply.. The exhaust sounds good.. But i was wondering. Have you got a picture of this exhaust on your car, so the cams facin right at it, as the car is on a normal rd, not on a ramp?

thanks

Unfortunatly I don't have any from straigh on in the back. Though I think Mike B or someone else might have on that they took when they saw the car in person at one of the shows, but not sure on that one.

back to the springs.......

are the Espelirs progressive?

and are TIENS progressive?

and this question is for Vivid :

If i were to get the Espelirs from you.... under normal driving and the occasional little "fun"........ how long can the stock struts last with the Espelirs?

BIU,

The Espelirs are progressive from what I've read on them and Huff over at vivid confirmed this as well.

Under normal driving conditios with a little fun here and there you should be able to get about 50-60k out of the stock set up with the springs. The drop isn't that drastic compared to others I've seen so it shouldn't affect the longevity that much.

Just another Follow up.....

I now have about 1000 miles on the springs. I've recently taken the car on to some 'twisty roads' and the ride is greatly enhanced. Additionally the car didn't settle any further than the previous pic's show. Ride quality has remained very good. Overall very very tight.

Just the last thoughts for you all. Now on to the next mod!!! (looking in wallet wistfully :D)

Yes! I think we should get together and go for a fun drive. Don't forget about the track event coming up in May at PIR.

S_D, is that kind of like "zoom, zoom, zoom"? The track event is at PIR in May. I'll let you know more as soon as I find out.

Word of advice for anyone installing the springs themselves. I found the rear springs to be bit harder to install than the front. When doing the rear springs it makes it easier to unbolt one of the control arms to get the struts out. it was an ordeal trying to "shimmy" the strut out. it helps to have air tools. doing the springs with a ratchet set is another big pain in the ***. just some advice.

Sup3rbad,

That was exactly what I noticed when I did my springs. Seriously need to have air tools.

Air tools are the best and make short work of stubborn bolts and stuff.

Seen the car, beautiful!

I have seen the install, it turned out very beautiful. I do have some questions that I forgot to ask and I know if I do not ask now, i will forget by Sunday's drive.

Installation of these springs, did you keep the stock shocks or use shorter shocks? will the installation of these shocks wear the stock shocks quicker?

What was the reasoning you went with springs vs. a coilover set (aside from the difference in cost)? (If there was another reason). I know you mentioned your interests in autox, don't coilovers provide better cornor weight balancing?

And you did mention to me that you did not have to mess with camber settings as your drop is approx 1.25 in. Thought that might benefit DIY's.

And after your install, after gettting your test miles on them, have you noticed or did you have the wheels realigned?

Thanks.
P.S. - great pics!

Pret,

Thanx for the compliments. We kept the stock shocks. The shocks shouldn't wear significantly quicker as the travel is still within tolerances. Springs vs. Coilovers. #1 obviously price. #2 it was a 'new' product and I got to be one of the first with these on my 8 (plus it helped out vivid a little :D) Eventually I may go to coilovers but that will likely be a while. My plan was springs, then strut bars mainly for the handling on the roadtrips I like to take. It's a lot of fun to fly through the twisties. Autocross/autoxing is something I'd like to try. Coilovers of course are all around better but not an investment I'm quite ready to make. I checked on the alignment this weekend and it was fine. Camber in the front is still good but the rear is running a slight negative camber. It's not so much that it would even need to be adjusted. I think that sums it up.

great setup! looking into getting some springs myself. Sorry for the noob-ness of my question but you mentioned that with stock setup the stock strut will probably last ~ 50k-60k... what would they other wise last with stock springs?

thanks

Thank you for the bump. I just got the springs from the GB with auto rnd. I needed to see which way the narrow side of the spring faces since I will be installing these w/in next two weeks. I do not like to get the car up on stands and have to guess!
