FYI for those of you with brake squeal
#26
I have found that if I double pump the brakes, the squeal subsides.. at least for that particular 'braking' or 'slow down'.. then picks up again for the next time I brake.. so try double pumping.. see if that works for you.

Between the rotor dust and the squeal I'm about ready to invest in new pads!!!
The sad part is I only have 1500 miles on my 8!
I'll be really disappointed if I change my pads and the squeal persists!
Has anyone had luck with low dust pads?
Thanks in advance for your input!

I didn't think I had the brake squealing problem until the weather turned nice this past spring and I started driving with the windows open. It is not consistent but it is definitely there. Glad to hear Mazda thinks they can fix it.

I just called my Mazda service center to make my 10,000 mile oil change appointment and mentioned the brake pad thing ( I've been complaining to him about my squeal for 4 months now) and he said they are giving us new pads.

break squeal
I just finished talking to the service manager at my dealer and he stated that there are 30,000 pairs of brake pads somewhere on a ship between here and Japan to cure this problem. The pads that we have are made for racing and are much harder than the replacement pads we will get. This will fix the noise but I imagine that brake dust situation will be compounded by the softer pads. Gary

I had a Porsche 968 that had a real bad brake squeal problem. I asked my mechanic who specialized in Porsches only, and his advice was to go about 80-90mph and slam on the brakes. He said to do it about 3 or 4 times and it would scrub the rotors. He said since the brakes were made for high performance driving, driving around town and just gently using them between stop lights causes them to build up a film on the rotors which in turn makes them squeal. Anyway I took his advice and it worked just like he said.
You guys might want to try this. Just make sure no one's behind you!

i had this same "problem" on my RSX type-S.
i didn't mind it much, when it went to get serviced they changed the pads (not on my request). the braking performance was considerably decreased.
i prefer to have the performance. i've learned to drive 'around' the issue so to speak.

So I was right. It's only on the front brakes. Good deal! I wonder how many of us are gonna get our rotors turned, whether they need it or not... know what I mean? (page 2)

It sounds to me like my BACK brakes are doing the sqealing, NOT the fronts. In fact if I pull up a bit (lightly) on the emergency brake a few times(as a test) before I come to s stop, there is no squeal.
It would be interesting if the replacement pads put out less dust. Don't let them turn your rotors if possible.
