After 2 weeks with the new pads and a long trip over the weekend, I finally washed the car today, and I'd have to agree with MarkD, much less brake dust than the originals. A nice bonus on top of being squeal free. Also it seems every dealer is applying a different anti-vibration compound. I should give the shop a call and find out what they're using, I thought at first it might be CRC Brake Quiet, but that's more of a red-rubbery goo, rather than a pink-metallic paste. Here's a pic for comparison:

His pads look the same as mine, I think (unless I'm being my usual inobservant self) but mine apparently don't have any 'goop' on them. I hope they didn't forget to coat my pads

Thanks for doing that, Charles. After you adjusted that pic, I took a second look at my brakes. Apparently, as you can probably tell from the image now, I do have some sort of goop on my brakes, but it's the same color as the pads. Not sure why everyone else seems to have pink or a lighter color.
On the performance side, though, I still have no squeal; very, very minimal brake dust on my wheels; and the stopping power does not seem compromised in the least.

Well, it's been a few days since I had my pads replaced as per the TSB... the service writer said car was done, no machining needed on the rotors. I picked up the car and "WHOA MOMA!" They should've resurfaced these rotors... first few stops definitely didn't feel ok to me. It's been a few days now and the brakes are finally starting to feel back to normal again. I did notice that the new pads were obviously not making full contact with the rotors the first hours of use as I could see where they were making contact, and where there was a wide patch that was not getting fricton. As a matter of fact, the following day I notice light rust (yes! rust!) on the rotors where the pads were not making contact. A few more agressive stops later, and I guess they are now making full contact as the rust is gone. I was taught to always machine rotors whenever pads get changed... even on NEW discs. Sucks that the TSB didn't include it.
P.S. The squeal is definitely gone! And as a bonus, there is ALOT less brake dust!

My dealer (Gunther of Ft. Lauderdale) keeps telling me that they haven't heard anything from Mazda and I even took the print out of the TSB. Anyone know of a number that I can contact Mazda in regards to having my breaks serviced? Also, if anyone knows of a dealer in the Miami, FL area that will replace my breaks please let me know. The squeal is driving me nuts.

Brake squeal
Take it to Lou Bachrodt in Coconut Creek. They had to order the brake pads which took about 2 weeks, but they replaced them for me.

I finally got the new pads installed by the dealer. I haven't heard any squealing since, so I'm happy. I've been easy on the brakes, though, to prevent any warping of the rotors. For this reason, I can't comment on whether or not stopping power has been affected.

I've had them for a month, and 1000 miles. No squeak and cannot tell a difference in braking performance - still great. I think this rates with the M-flash. It was a long time in coming, but it appears they got it right.

There has been an article previously posted on how to bed in new brakes to prevent squeal and dust, which involves several 100-0 stops when the brakes are pretty new. Is this ok because you have new rotors so the rotors won't get warped or what?

Had my pads replaced a couple of weeks ago...They still squeal.. I should say that the front passenger side squeals (it used to be both). It squeals at a higher pitch and not as loudly this time...

I feel you. I got about 2 weeks of quiet and then the honeymoon was over. I got new pads and rotors and the noise is now twice as bad as before. I will be making that trip back to the dealer to get this issue solved.

i got my dealer to order me new brake pads.. now, was it the front or rear or both? my 8 seems to be squeeling from the fronts... they should be getting it shorty.
