FYI for those of you with brake squeal

According to my invoice (from August 10), only the front pads are replaced and coated.
Don't forget to bed your new pads when you get them.

Just got my pads replaced a couple days ago. Squeal is gone. No ordering, they had them in stock and are also changing them on some of the Mazda 6's.
Too soon to tell about dust. Bedding the pads in actually made no change and they still stop as well as the squealers did.

Yeah, I couldn't tell if bedding the pads actually made any difference for me either, but I suppose it was one of those feelgood techniques more than anything. I didn't notice any lining that was supposed to have been left on the discs.
Let me know how the brakes work for you in the long run. When I first got them, they worked very well, but after 2-3 months, they seem more like ordinary brakes to me than the originals did. I almost wish I'd held on to the original brakes for 10k miles before replacing them so I could prolong the life of the new ones!

Well, I had just over 9200 on it when I took it in last week. I drove it a lot every day when I first got it in Maarch of 2004, but in the last six months I only take it out once or twice a week because of the mileage (9-10mpg). Otherwise I might have had 20K on it by now.
Right after they replaced the pads, on the way home they did not work very well at all. After putting 200 miles on them they worked just like the old ones and after bedding them in I feel no difference.
So if they don't get the mileage corrected, it might take another 6 months to get the same wear on them that you probably will in 2-3 months. That is if I don't get so mad at it that I sell it. I have a friend with a Ford GT and he gets 13 mpg and a whole lot more fun from the 500+ hp. Of course he paid five times as much for his fun.

Unbelievable that you're getting such poor mileage. I have to admit, I'm glad I'm not in your shoes. I'm getting somewhere between 13-16 mpg, depending on how hard I drive the car, and even those numbers frustrate me. I don't know what the difference is between your engine and mine, but I hope Mazda does a better job of quality control in the future.

But not wanting to hijack the thread, I will say that I don't have shoes for you to be in, I have discs and they don't squeal any longer.

I got the new pads and my brakes began almost immediately squealing louder than before. The service writer says he can't do any more about it.....says Mazda's newest version is on the car now and it's the nature of the beast!

Can anyone tell me if my vin is past the one on the site can i still get the squeaky brake replacement???
my brakes have been annoying me for a couple months and when i asked the dealer about it when i was in, they just said, they checked it and nothing was wrong....
(i'm guessing they only checked if it was aligned??)
but they squeak all the time...
i still have warranty if that counts
