Gauging Interest: Powertrix Coilovers Group Buy!!
UPDATE 6/15/11: OFFICIAL Powertrix Group Buy Now OPEN ->https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...20#post4006120
UPDATE 6/1/11: 10 spots met - Official Powertrix GB Will Soon Be Open!
10 Spot requirement was met - official GB with more details will soon be open. Not 100% sure, but there may be more spots available as well. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to be added to the additional list.
UPDATE 5/24/11: Powertrix Coilover GB Pending!
This is not an official group buy just yet; currently gauging interest, technically. Once official GB opens, a new thread will be started in the official GB section. For reference, when GB opens, I believe a 50% deposit will be enough to lock in a spot with the balance due when the coilovers reach Powertrix HQ in SD. Will keep you guys updated!

Well, like I mentioned, I was hoping to wait until I got my new wheels on before doing a photoshoot and really opening the GB but the powdercoater has been lagging, so it may be a bit longer.
I'll take some candid shots within the next few days to illustrate ride height after the springs have settled. Mind you, my car is currently set up with very light preload -> no spring droop + this ride height + full suspension travel = in my book. Won't be hitting those bump stops any time soon!
At this point, I'm going to be speaking with Powertrix about starting a GB asap. Let's see how many here are game for this - Either PM me or post here which you are seriously interested in and I'll add your name to the new list on post #1 (please, only seriously interested indicate so, I don't want to give them empty promises!). Assume pricing to be around the price indicated in the initial post; rear top mounts included, rear extenders included, spanner wrenches, custom spring rates/lengths if desired, etc. I'm proud to be helping a new company offer the best value coilovers for our platform - let's do this!

Powertrix coilovers? *tiltmode43 approved*

Not yet installed, but Check out some pics. These may look familiar to many, though with slight differences
From the factory, these came with 9k/6k springs rates (200mm/175mm lengths, respectively). I opted to go with a 10k/7k setup (200mm/200mm lengths).
All four lined up!

All Powertrix Coilovers feature rebuildable/replaceable monotube strut bodies with 15 way strut damper adjustments and Independent Ride height and Spring Preload adjustability.
Powertrix offers three different versions
-Sport Street: Geared toward the street minded enthusiast, these coilovers utilize a synthetic butyl bushing in place of a pillow ball to allow for a a fair amount of suspension energy properly without being overly stiff, to help with ride quality.
-Race: With an aluminum pillow-ball upper mount, 45mm strut piston, and forged steel threaded shock bodies, these coilovers should offer a bit more for the performance minded enthusiast.
-Ultra-Lite: Maintaining all features of the Race coilover, the Ultra-Lite version is for the competition minded enthusiast featuring an Aluminum strut housing for an overall *unsprung* weight drop of about 2-3lbs/coilover
The best part? *Tentative* Group Buy Pricing!
Sport Street: ~$800
Race: ~$970
Ultra-Lite: ~$1200
Overall, for a true monotube design, rebuildable/replaceable strut, Ride Height & Pre-load Independent Adjustment, and 15-way damping, it really seems to be a great value, which is why I thought some other rx8club members may be interested

I should be receiving my coilovers within the next 3-4 weeks, and will be posting updates at that time. Gregs, since you're in socal, feel free to check out the coilovers before I install them, if you happen to be interested.
Powertrix offers excellent customer service, so I thought I would return the favor by posting up this feeler

c0ldf1ame - I'll see what I can do when I get them in

Ehh, I wouldn't be so quick to lump them all into one category. The Three different levels do have different features/designs, so they cannot all be the same thing, "rebranded megans." Take a closer look I appreciate the caution though!

Hmmm, I may be interested if they dyno well but I doubt shock dyno graphs will be provided. It is nice that they are rebuild-able and monotube though.
After installing a set of Stance recently, I am not impressed really. The Tanabe's, Teins', Eibach's, and Bilstein coilovers I have installed previously were all much less hassle getting adjusted.

I'm not trying to push these up against Ohlins or any other coilovers along those lines. Just figured they may offer a decent entry level coilover, comparable to Stance but a bit cheaper.

Might be good to post the spring rates of the different versions...I would assume they get stiffer with each raise in price?
I was just wondering if they had done any Dyno's to show the difference between the Sport Street and the Race versions.

I am interested in how the Sport Streets compare to Megans in regards to ride height adjustability, stiffness, etc. If they are "better" than Megans then I will definitely be interested in buying them because they are exactly the same price as Megans.
Hopefully they aren't just green/black Megans, though...

I'll get more info when I have a chance. Spring rates can be custom chosen, which is the route I ended up going, but I'll see what the factory specs are.
I'm surprised the *Race* coilovers don't look a little more familiar to some of you guys

The thing about custom spring rates is that cheap shocks are not designed to handle a wide variety of spring rates. Which is why most of them have a standard spring rate for each shock...8K/6K...7K/5K...etc. If you were to choose custom spring rates for the shock you would also want to have the shock revalved to pair with the spring rates...If you didn't do that then going stiffer because you think it will make the car handle better will actually lessen the involvement of the shock.

Right, anything outside of 2k rates requires revalving of the dampers, per powertrix. I'm just not certain of the standard rates for the three levels, hence why I'm holding off on posting.
Good info though, for those who did not know why one cannot simply swap out coilover springs to change rates on a whim.
