Getting my brakes painted!!
hey guys just letting you know that i just put my car in the shop for the brake calipers and the rotor covers to be painted. im getting the calipers in the nissan copper metallic like on the 350z's. i think itll look sexy when im driving =p.
what i really made this thread for though is for that rust space that people get on their rear rotors is so annoying. what can i do about not making the rust show anymore??
is there a special way to paint it? apply some type of added zinc plating? the shop said they wouldnt do it.
im putting on the slotted rotors from rx7store.

I love the bronze color. I'm strongly considering it myself. Look forward to the after pics
Love the drop on your suspension. Sorry for the off topic- what are you running? (didn't see any suspension mods in your sig...)

I had the rust issue on the wheel hubs (notorious on the 2004's). I just took a spray can of semi-gloss black auto paint (something that will withstand the heat), taped off the rotors, and painted it with that. Looks good. You don't really see the black to the point where it stands out...however, you don't see the rust anymore which was the point. So I'm happy. I'm sorry, but I don't remember the brand of paint I used.

it probably had to be hi temp paint right. does it have to be perfect, the paint job on the hub? or did you make the brakes make the extra circle on the hub(probably a bad idea)? or did u use some type of stencil

I just did this over winter. Very time consuming if you want to do it right. I used Duplicolor caliper paint in the spray cans...silver for the the base coat and inside the rotors and red for top coat on the calipers. The most important part of this is prep. You have to get all the rust and grime off the surfaces. I tore down my calipers and used many cans of brake cleaner, a wire brush, and a 3M scotch pad to get them clean. I then sanded everything. I used 1/8" pinstiping to make the outer circle on the rotor. Mask everything else with auto masking tape. I put down 2 coats of silver on the inside rotors and as a base coat on the calipers. I then put down 3 coats of red on the calipers themselves. I finished it off with Polak's RX-8 caliper decals in black. Looks amazing!

You can call me ghetto but I used Tremclad BBQ paint (Black). I've used Foliatec kits in the past as well as other more expensive stuff but the Tremclad works just the same and is hella durable. The black I used was flat black and it looks like the calipers came stock that color from the factory. I also prefer brush on paint - goes on thick, no overspray and no need for masking.
Tremclad rocks.

You can get kits for $30-$40 that include high heat paint, brake cleaner and paint brush. There will be plenty of paint left over for future touch ups. I painted my hubs and calipers black and I'm very pleased with the results.
llzjayarzll,
I want to see how the copper bronze calipers look on the 8 so I'm definitely looking forward to your pics!
