Good Auto-X Setup
hey everyone. im going to be buying an RX8 as an Auto-X project.
is anyone here an avid auto-xer? what kind of suspension/brake/tire setup has given you good success? im just trying to find out what works, and what could use changing.
stronger clutch? swaybars (F and/or R?)
any brand of suspension parts that anyone prefers?

perhaps I should have said first:
i am not 100% decided on an RX8, i am still looking at other platforms. so another question i should be asking is:
is there any weakness, or big complaint anyone has with the RX8, that sticks out in Auto-X? like short gearing, or such?

So I guess you are not going to run stock class.... Are you looking at STU, BSP or SM?
As far as stock class so far zero issues. 16k miles and a year and a half of autox and only been to the dealer for one recall issue.

In stock SCCA class BS, the RX8 is a killer machine. Review the nationals scores and etc. In stock, only allowable changes are a different front sway bar, shocks that utilize stock mountings, and tires. Folks running the Kumho V710 R compounds are normal.
The RX8 properly prepared runs with and away from the 350Z, G35, etc. This, for many thousands of dollars less, and with 4 seats and 4 doors !
In modified classes, well, that depends on the tuner. (Oh yeah, a lot depends on the driver too.)
As far as dependability - most cars in this category will run fine in stock, without any issues. Only consideration is that if you are buying a NEW car, or a car that is still under warranty, you run the risk of voiding your warranty, but this is true with every automobile that I am aware of. Most folks that I know of with an RX8 that run autocrosses in stock class use the same car for daily drivers. I have personally not seen any issues with reliability or damage from autocrossing the 8.
Finally, the RX8 needs to have the oil checked every time before you autocross it, and needs to run with 1/2 tank of gas. Oil level is critical for cooling in the RX too, and there is an issue with gas slop when running less than 1/2 tank. These are the only two physical considerations that I am aware of.
The 8 is terrific to autocross, has wonderful feel at speed, moves like a well honed dancer around the cones, and looks mighty sweet. And 9K rpm sets the adrenalin flowing.
Only other car I would consider for autocrossing is the Honda S2000, but again, for many thousands of dollars more.

if i am going with an RX8, i was thinking weight reduction, R-compounds, and suspension mods. i dont think that would put me in Mod, so prepared is probably where Ill be.
im not sure if they class cars the same way in the states. im in canada.

The only thing not covered is R tires and a light flywheel. btw 285-30-18s on up to a 18X10 wheel will fit the car.
