flip, dumb question here..did you paint your fender strakes?? i cant tell if it is just the camera angles of the strakes(i love how you have 3 instead of 2 on each side) hitting the body color of your car. if you did paint your strakes, did you use the touch up paint? also, is your car lowered? as i plan on getting these exact wheels around april or so and dont want to lower my car at all and will be getting 19x8s all around. your car looks great. i just hope its not lowered cause the stance of your car w/the new wheels is money.

Wow Nice!

Any reason you got 18's instead of 19's?

Im debating which size to get myslef. I love the staggered look though.

Actually, strakes were custom made from DLS customs (Dmenac7).. and have TEIN-S lowering springs installed as well... but 19's would look nice.

i stayed w/ 18's after seeking some suggestions from numerous people here (started a thread on it) and talking w/ some custom shops... i didn't want to compromise the ride of the car overall... who knows, maybe i'll get a set in 19's too.. just for those special occasions.. :p

Thanks buddy. I was kind of talking about an actual side shot of the whole car. You have one in your first post but it was a little blurry. Sorry for the confusion.

Is there a reason you went with 245's on the rear instead of 255, 265, or 275? Will any of these width's cause rubbing problems with your setup? I'm about to order the same setup as you, however in researching I found people using 245's on 8-inch wide rims. So I went back to your pics and it seems that the sidewalls on yoiur rears look to be at an angle, not straight up, and because of that they look like they are really being stretched to fit on the 9.5 rims.

I've never modified a car or bought aftermarket rims so this is going to be new terrritory for me and I'm just trying to get as informed as possible being making the investment in rims/tires.

Thanks in advance.

Just some general info that might help you. People seem to put almost any size tire on any size wheel, go figure. But there are a few reasons to do one thing over another. If you look at the spec for each tire size in a particualr model on a tire's web site they list (among other things) the wheel size they use in measuring that particular tire size's dimensions. That is there 'best choice' wheel size, from an overall ride-handling-wear compromise. Then they usually list a range on either side of that bigger and smaller that are OK, just not the recommended.

If you go bigger wheel and stretch the tire to it, to a point that can give some better stability under hard use, beyond that it may wear the tire unevenly. If you go smaller wheel then the sidewalls are rounded, rather than straight up, and the handling usually suffers as the tire sidewall does not have the support from the wheel it needs. Handling gets mushier, and tire wear suffers.

Nevertheless, for street use only, there is a fairly good range of sizes for any tire/wheel combo that works fairly OK (like the charts say). Just start on your planned tire's web site to get the optimal fitment rules for best results, then go from that.

Can you share any info you have on wheel construction? How strong are theses supposed to be? Wheel cost(s), availabilty and where do they come from?

Thanks
1 set of Stock 18" wheels w/ 245/40x18 Continetal "ExtreemContact's" ZR for daily driving; and 1 set of SSR Comp's 18x8.5 (or were the 9" ~ I'll have to dig up the sales receipt) w/ 255/35x18 Dunlop "SuperSport Race" 255/35x18's for HPDE track days.

Your daily drive combo looks like what most are doing as a +1 sizing upgrade. For 245 tires most manufacturers recommend 8.5" wheels as optimal, but what ta hey - we got 8s on ours. I don't know anything about the Conti though.

Your other combo sound like a pretty damn fair track/auto-x combo. I can't think of a better wheel construction than SSR Comps at 18x8.5" on our car (unless maybe a 17x8.5"), they're forged (good and strong), very lightweight (good) and expensive (good - cheap is ... well.. bad - do you want cheap wheels under you?) and the Dunlops are one nice sticky :D inexpensive DOT-legal Competition tire and at that size you even get a 3.6% gearing boost , which never hurts unless you're FIed you won't need it. Enjoy those skins
