Grinding/vibration from slotted rotors
Hey guys,
I've had a set of RotorPros slotted rotors installed for about 8 months now. Braking is fine, but as I slow down, I'm feeling a grinding vibration coming from the brakes. I'm not sure if it's the front or rear (or both), but if I pulse the brakes, it usually stops. It's just when I apply constant pressure and the car approaches a stop, that I experience this.
This is my first set of slotted rotors (I've had cross-drilled on another car with no issues), and I'm curious if it may be the nature of this type of rotor, or if something else may be going on. At first, I thought I installed them backwards, but after doing some research it seems that you can install them on either side, as long as the internal vanes are straight.
Anyone have a clue about why I'm getting this grinding? I'm currently using Hawk ceramic pads on these rotors. Thanks in advance.

i had a similar issue with mine. when i had all my rotors changed out, i forgot to tighten one caliper [i only slightly tightened it] and it would grind at very low speed.
when i posted on this forum about my issue, they also suggested the pad might be sticking to the rotor.

I had the wheels off the other day and noticed that the part of the caliper that actually holds the pads has a tiny bit of play in it. I mean it's very small - just barely any movement, but maybe enough to cause some vibration? The caliper bolts were both very tight and I loosened and re-torqued them with the same result. I tried manipulating the nut and bolt to completely eliminate the play, but it wouldn't tighten any more.
Is there something I'm missing? I didn't think you should be able to move the caliper at all once the bolts are tight and the piston is pushing against the pads. Any ideas?

there will be a little bit of play. The bolts aren't really bolts. They are just studs and kinda sit in the caliper carrier(the frame around the caliper). Make sure you lube them very good cause if you can't get them out then you will have to buy a new carrier and new studs(I know very well of this). I had to replace it all on mine cause the previous owner didn't do maintenance on the car very well. But its done and over with now. The caliper will have play though, its called something like a floating caliper or something. That is why those studs don't really "screw" into anything, and they are smooth on the end.
